Job Description
The School of Environment and Science offers programs in environmental, forensic, biomedical and general science which include options to combine data science with the common science majors to better equip our graduates for the digitally enabled workplace of the future.
We are looking for a Research Fellow to work within the Surfaces, Materials and Catalysis research group on the development, characterisation and evaluation of catalysts for the development of electrocatalysts as part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide. The Research Fellow will report to Professor Adam Lee.
The key responsibilities for this Research Fellow position include;
- Conduct laboratory, fieldwork, and research that contributes to the research objectives of the ARC Centre of Excellence.
- Maintain a strong publication record in high-impact, international, esteemed peer-reviewed journals and pursue competitive funding.
- Contribute to group research projects as appropriate to research skills.
- Assist in mentoring and supervision of higher degree research candidates.
This is a fixed term (two year), full time position and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.
Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be Academic Research Fellow Grade 1 range $86,526 - $101,354 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $101,236 - $118,585 per annum.
Qualifications
To be successful within this role, you will have a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
You will also have:
- Demonstrated experience in the wet-chemical synthesis of metal and/or oxide nanoparticle or porous electrocatalysts and their deposition on solid or gas-diffusion electrodes, and hands-on experience in their characterisation by bulk and surface sensitive techniques including XRD, XPS, IR and porosimetry, and expertise in electrochemical methods including cyclic voltammetry, EIS, and chronoamperometry.
- Experience in the construction and use of electrochemical batch or flow cells for CO2 reduction, and associated use of spectroscopic (IR and UV-Vis preferred) and chromatographic (GC and HPLC preferred) methods for product analysis.
- Experience in conducting kinetic and mechanistic studies of electrocatalytic reactions, and developing structure-function relationships.
- Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills and contribute to the positive culture and aspirations of the School and University.
