The Australian Rivers Institute (ARI) was formed in 2006 and is one of Australia's largest university aquatic ecosystem research groups with globally recognised expertise in river, catchment and coastal ecosystems and the interaction with these systems in society. ARI combines outstanding scholarship with making a significant contribution to society through providing knowledge and advice. ARI's talented researchers offer essential insights into the water cycle's linkages, interconnectedness, and interdependencies.
Job Description
ARI is currently seeking a Research Fellow (Grade 2) or Senior Research Fellow (SRF) to support the Director. The Research Fellow will provide leadership and direction to the Director’s research team and HDR candidates, taking a lead role in providing outcomes from externally funded, multi-disciplinary projects. The Research Fellow is expected to co-supervise HDR candidates and undergraduate student projects.
As a member of the Australian Rivers Institute, the Research Fellow is also expected to contribute actively to activities that promote ARI and Griffith University.
Key requirements of this position include:
Research Fellow Grade 2
- Conduct analytical and modeling research aligned with the Institute's objectives.
- Maintain a strong track record of publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
- Seek research funding from various competitive sources, including philanthropic grants and consultancies.
- Demonstrate ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary projects, working effectively in teams.
- Manage research outputs, maintain communication with stakeholders, mentor students, supervise staff, work independently to meet deadlines, and uphold ethical and professional standards according to the University's Code of Conduct.
Senior Research Fellow
- Conduct analytical and/or modeling research aligned with the Institute's objectives.
- Maintain a strong publication history in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
- Lead funding proposals from diverse sources, such as competitive funding, grants, and consultancies.
- Demonstrate leadership in collaborative, multi-disciplinary projects and function effectively within teams.
- Exhibit independent work capabilities, meet deadlines, manage external research funds, and communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms for proposals and reports.
- Supervise higher degree research candidates, undergraduates, research, and technical staff, providing mentorship and training.
- Lead adherence to University policies, including research ethics, health & safety, and equity standards, while embodying the institution's Code of Conduct in all actions and communications.
What we can offer
This a full time, fixed term (2 years) position based at the Nathan campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.
Salary range
The base salary for a full-time Research Fellow (Grade 2) is in the range $105,144 - $124,862 (pro rata) per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. The total package is in the range $123,019 - $146,089 (pro rata) per annum.
The base salary for a full-time Senior Research Fellow is in the range $128,802 - $148,520 (pro rata) per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. The total package is in the range $150,698 - $173,768 (pro rata) per annum.
Qualifications
You will hold a PhD or equivalent qualifications and work experience in water science, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or a relevant field.
In addition to the above, you will demonstrate the following:
- A track record of publication in high-impact journals.
- Demonstrate ability to conduct collaborative research in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency projects.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines.
- Work collaboratively as a team member and communicate with various stakeholders.
