Company Description
Veterinarian – Greencross Preston
Part time opportunity | Inner Melbourne
Greencross Preston is looking for a veterinary associate who wants to practise thoughtful, high‑quality medicine in a clinic where collaboration, learning, and genuine care for patients and people are part of everyday life.
This is a clinic for vets who enjoy thinking deeply about cases, sharing knowledge, and being supported by a close‑knit, highly engaged team right in the heart of Melbourne’s north.
Why Greencross Preston?
Greencross Preston is known for its strong clinical culture and commitment to learning. Complex cases are approached as a team, not in isolation. A recent example includes the long‑term management of a chronic kidney disease cat with multiple comorbidities, where the team organised a journal club to review current literature, align treatment goals, and refine monitoring protocols. That collaborative process didn’t just benefit one patient, it elevated the standard of care for all CKD patients across the clinic.
Going above and beyond is a shared responsibility here. From vets rotating through emergency care on a hit‑by‑car case, to nurses supporting anxious owners, to reception staff following up insurance claims and saving a client thousands of dollars - every role contributes to exceptional outcomes. The result is strong client loyalty and moments that genuinely remind the team why they do this work.
A team that supports and teaches
You’ll be joining a clinic where vets actively mentor each other and nursing staff are integral to patient care. Team members consistently describe the culture as supportive, caring, and resilient. Nicole Su, one of the clinic’s veterinary associates, is particularly valued for her ability to mentor new graduates, teach efficiently, and support both vets and nurses while also bringing strong expertise in exotics. This teaching mindset runs throughout the team.
Access to learning is a big reason people stay. The clinic regularly utilises live CE webinars, VIN, Plumbs, and national conferences, backed by the wider Greencross network, including access to emergency and specialty support through Greencross Veterinary Hospital and Animal Referral Hospital.
A unique clinical offering
Greencross Preston offers a genuinely distinctive GP caseload, with a strong focus on exotics. The team regularly treats rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, and other small mammals, offering services such as dentals, desexing, DNA sexing in birds, and medical management of sick exotics. This allows both experienced and curious clinicians to broaden their skillset while still working within a supported GP environment.
Work–life balance that’s actively protected
Leaders at Preston place real emphasis on sustainable workloads. The priority is for team members to finish on time, take their RDOs, and avoid unnecessary overtime except in true emergencies. Systems and workflows are continually reviewed to support this, because the belief is simple: great medicine is not possible without wellbeing.
The role
This is a part‑time veterinary associate role, two days per week, with a varied caseload across companion animals and exotics. You’ll be supported to practise evidence‑based medicine, contribute ideas, and continue developing your clinical interests in a team‑based environment.
This role would suit a veterinarian who values collaboration, enjoys learning, and takes pride in delivering high‑quality care to both patients and clients.
Location & lifestyle
Preston offers outstanding convenience, with easy access to Melbourne CBD, public transport, and a major Westfield shopping centre just minutes away. Cafés, restaurants, and everyday amenities are right on your doorstep, making it an easy place to balance work and life.
