Get to Know the Team

Grab Financial's Lending business provides microcredit and loan products to our valued drivers and merchants within the Grab ecosystem. Over the past five years, this business has not only matured but also become a significant profit driver for Grab. Our team comprises experts in Fintech Lending, spanning across multiple teams and business verticals. Currently, our lending operations extend to six Southeast Asian countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand, with a dedicated regional and country team structure.

Get To Know The Role

As a Principal Engineer at Grab, you will play an important role where you will lead strategic programmes in product and technology development within the dynamic realm of lending.

In this hybrid role, You will chart and lead the pursuit of the broader technical strategy, working with engineering, product managers and business owners. You will be a bar-raiser for the team, steering engineering while coaching peers. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Lending at Grab, where your leadership will directly influence our trajectory in this critical area.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  • You will Lead the design and architecture of complex Lending systems, ensuring they are scalable, and maintainable, while setting the gold standard for availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency across Grab's product spectrum.
  • You will provide strategic technical insights and risk assessments to leadership and partners, guiding decision-making that drives project and people management.
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product and experience teams, to influence technical decisions and define feature specifications that create a lasting impact.
  • You will identify and mitigate technical risks through proactive initiatives, ensuring long-term maintainability and performance of critical systems while handling incidents as they arise.
  • You will provide feedback on code, design, and technical proposals, championing best practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and software performance optimization.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  • You will have 12 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in the lending domain and building scalable systems.
  • Your domain experience in developing consumer-facing products, in lending will be critical to the success of this role.
  • Your proficiency in at least one programming language Java or Golang will be a bar-raiser for the team
  • You will design scalable, and efficient system architectures.
  • You will make high-level design choices and dictate technical standards, including software coding standards, tools, and platforms.
  • You understand technologies used in lending systems. This includes knowledge of programming languages, databases, cloud services, data structures and algorithms and other relevant technologies.
