Job Description
We are seeking Junior Systems Engineering Analysts to support the design, integration, and testing of advanced mission and communication systems used in land-based defence environments. In this role, you will work within Agile, multidisciplinary teams on applied systems engineering problems involving requirements development, system architecture, integration, verification, and validation in complex operational environments. You will contribute directly to delivered system capabilities across the system development lifecycle, working alongside experienced engineers on real-world solutions.
This posting supports multiple junior systems engineering opportunities beginning May 2026 and is well suited for recent or upcoming Engineering and Applied Science graduates.
In this role you may…
- Participate in requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation activities, including preparation of system and subsystem specifications.
- Develop, document, and review system designs, architectures, use cases, and internal and external interfaces with guidance from senior engineers.
- Support system architecture modelling, trade studies, and technical analyses to evaluate design options and system performance.
- Develop integration, verification, and validation plans, procedures, configurations, and expected outcomes in alignment with design documentation.
- Build, configure, and validate laboratory and field-based integration and test environments.
- Execute formal and informal verification and validation activities; collect, analyze, and interpret test data and contribute to test reports.
- Develop and maintain automated or semi-automated test tools and scripts to support system-level verification and acceptance testing.
- Support integration, qualification, acceptance, and external validation test events, including customer demonstrations and field trials.
- Identify, investigate, document, and support resolution of system defects and integration issues.
- Collaborate closely with software, hardware, integration, test, and operations teams within an Integrated Product Team environment.
- Participate in Agile team ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Prepare technical documentation and deliver presentations to internal stakeholders and customers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including requirement-to-test traceability, process optimization, and knowledge sharing.
- Build systems engineering skills, expand domain knowledge, and actively contribute to team learning initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, or a related discipline.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to perform technical analysis and root cause investigation.
- Ability to understand and reason about complex technical systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information.
- Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills, and takes ownership of assigned work.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred
- Exposure to systems engineering fundamentals, including requirements definition, system design, and lifecycle processes.
- Experience supporting integration, verification, and validation activities at the system or subsystem level.
- Familiarity with requirements management, configuration management, or systems engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, Enterprise Architect, IBM RTC/EWM, ClearQuest, Code Collaborator).
- Experience working in lab-based test environments, including test setup, configuration, execution, and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to enterprise or tactical networking concepts, including Ethernet, IP networking, VLANs, and wireless communication principles.
- Experience developing or maintaining automated or semi-automated test scripts.
- Familiarity with Agile or iterative development methodologies.
- Interest in communication systems, system-of-systems integration, or mission-critical defence technologies.
- Exposure to field trials, customer validation events, or operational testing activities.
- For applicable teams, exposure to hardware-focused system analysis such as vetronics, sensors, optics, or subsystem performance measurement.
How We Work
- Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week - flexible within core business hours.
- Work Arrangement: A mix of onsite and remote work, as determined by business and role requirements.
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
