Purpose of Position:
Analyze appropriate general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers and prepare/file related tax compliance associated with 1) Real and Personal Property Tax and 2) various miscellaneous tax filings including gross receipts and fuel taxes. Respond to related taxing authority audits. Assist with real and personal property tax appeals. Support income tax filings. Research tax issues as necessary. Participate in department initiatives and special projects as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
Property Tax Compliance—Use PTMS software to import data files with SAP fixed asset records. Make decisions on most accurate way to map and render assets. Reconcile to current and prior years renditions and classify appropriately. Verify accuracy of disposed assets treatment and review for exempt assets. Gather and prepare imports for Supply Inventory to be reported. Complete relevant tax filings.
Taxing Authority Audits and Appeals – Assist and support managers on taxing authority audits and appeals. Retrieve documents, prepare support schedules and other supporting documentation requested by taxing authority auditors. Assist with analysis of assessed values for potential audit adjustments and/or appeals.
Analyze property tax bills (including supplementals and escapes) to verify validity and accuracy. Prepare uploads to A/P for payment of tax bills. Assist with internal budgeting of property tax payments.
Assist in analyzing and forecasting tax depreciation. Preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual fuel tax, gross receipts tax and miscellaneous tax returns
Other - Participation with system and process initiatives, and ad hoc projects as assigned by the Manager
BS in Accounting or Business Administration with accounting emphasis
One-three years of Accounting/Financial analysis experience, preferably in tax including CPA firm.
Strong accounting skills and sound understanding of financial statements
Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP, Lacerte)
Ability and willingness to learn new computer software and systems.
Excellent verbal, written, analytical & communication skills.
Must be able to work independently and have a high degree of organization and prioritization skills.
One-two years public accounting experience preferred.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be able to have consistent attendance.
Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
Must be able to work on the computer for long periods of time
