In Fortune Brands Innovation, Inc. we're looking a Packaging Engineering Manager for our New Innovation Center in Nuevo Leon, you’ll have the opportunity to a part of the Global Product Development and Innovation (GPD&I) team, will lead an international team responsible for developing and launching new packaging solutions for consumer goods in plumbing and security applications, and industrial products in exterior home applications. This role involves strategic planning, execution of long-term vision, and employee development.
Job Description
Packaging Development
- Lead the research, development, and deployment of new packaging technologies and solutions across all FBIN brands and suppliers.
- Create and manage the Packaging Development Project Portfolio, focusing on supporting new products, sustainability, supply chain growth, risk mitigation, and cost improvement.
- Ensure all requirements are factored in, including manufacturing processes for new and sustainable packaging technologies as well as any omnichannel requirements
- Identify, scope, and implement cost reduction opportunities through process improvement or new technology development.
- Define cosmetic, appearance, and performance requirements, including cost targets, in partnership with category management, operations, and finance.
- Provide technical support and assistance to all pack-out areas, including new product integration and launch teams, as well as external packaging suppliers.
- Stay abreast of new packaging technologies, materials, and innovations.
- Compile and prepare information for aligning business partners to key decisions, including necessary trade-offs.
- Align prioritization across each business unit.
- Consult with other Business Units on upcoming and new packaging projects and processes.
- Collaborate with Global Operations and Strategic Business Units to accelerate the packaging development process and improve delivery time and quality.
- Lead problem-solving and troubleshooting during packaging development and drive improved engineering practices within the team.
- Develop and launch a supplier-led development process, holding suppliers accountable for meeting requirements and owning the development end-to-end.
Strategic Planning and Execution
- Create and implement a strategic vision for the team, leading transformational activities to improve speed, efficiency, cost, and accuracy.
- Integrate Manufacturing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and GPD&I strategies into new packaged good launches and supply chain development.
Team Development
- Drive personal growth of team members through frequent 1:1s, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Create and execute robust individual development plans for all associates.
- Collaborate with leaders at manufacturing plants and Global Product Development and Innovation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant design/manufacturing leadership experience in project-oriented teams.
- 2 years of experience leading and managing direct reports.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in developing packaging solutions for retail, wholesale, master-packed, and industrially packed products.
- Experience collaborating with global teams and suppliers.
- Strong skills in collaboration with technical, manufacturing, supply chain, financial, and marketing professionals.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with knowledge of DOE techniques and applications.
- Track record of using best-in-class problem-solving tools such as FEA (desirable).
- Proven ability to manage people in a cross-functional team environment and drive execution through the product development process.
- Experience driving alignment within senior leadership and presenting to executives.
- Team player with good people skills to lead/coach cross-functional teams.
- Ability to travel up to 20% (including international travel, especially to the US).
