What We Do
AMS supports nuclear facilities worldwide with specialized expertise in I&C system testing, equipment qualification, wireless and online monitoring, cable aging diagnostics, calibration verification, and advanced data analysis. Our engineers work across nuclear power plants, research reactors, naval propulsion programs, and national security installations to ensure systems perform safely, reliably, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements.
What It’s Like to Work Here
At AMS, you’ll join a collaborative team of experts across nuclear, electrical, mechanical, computer, and materials engineering. We invest heavily in research and development, encourage creativity in problem-solving, and provide hands-on opportunities to contribute from day one. Many employees build long careers here because they’re able to learn continuously, take on diverse technical challenges, and work in an environment guided by teamwork, respect, and shared purpose.
Job Description
The goal of an Electrical Engineer at AMS is to support cable testing and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) services that protect the safe and reliable operation of critical systems in nuclear power plants and other demanding environments. Our engineers are not simply running tests; they are developing the technical judgment, discipline, and attention to detail required to operate in a regulated, safety-critical industry.
This role combines hands-on laboratory testing, plant support, data analysis, and structured documentation. Successful engineers at AMS demonstrate strong technical aptitude, professionalism, curiosity, and a commitment to quality. Training will be provided in AMS methodologies, proprietary systems, testing standards, and quality assurance processes.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze real-world plant data and laboratory measurements
- Advance the state of the art in I&C maintenance and reliability
- Support cable testing services in laboratory and plant environments, following established procedures while learning to apply engineering judgment under supervision.
- Assist with data acquisition and analysis for cable testing, EMC qualification, research projects, and commercial services.
- Execute EMC/EMI tests in the lab (e.g., emissions, immunity, surge, ESD, RF susceptibility) using diverse test equipment and software, and document results accurately and clearly.
- Draft and refine technical reports, trip reports, and supporting documentation with close attention to clarity, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Prepare equipment for plant trips and laboratory testing, ensuring proper configuration, verification, documentation, and tracking before and after use.
- Participate in on-site work at nuclear plants and customer facilities as needed, which may include field measurements, testing support, emissions surveys, and troubleshooting activities.
- Support quality assurance activities, including software and hardware verification, documentation completion, and adherence to structured engineering workflows.
- Contribute to troubleshooting efforts when systems do not initially meet testing criteria, working with internal teams to help identify root causes and potential solutions.
- Submit improvement ideas and support continuous improvement initiatives within the testing and documentation process.
Qualifications
Who We’re Looking For

- Critical thinker with a developing problem-solving mindset who is comfortable asking questions and learning from experienced engineers.
- Professional communicator who represents AMS well in both laboratory and plant environments.
- Personally accountable and reliable, able to complete assigned work with consistency while seeking guidance appropriately.
- Team-oriented collaborator who works effectively with technicians, engineers, and plant personnel to maintain a respectful, high-performing work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to follow structured engineering procedures.
- Brings interest in hands-on testing, instrumentation, or applied electrical systems.
- Shows strong attention to detail, particularly in documentation, data analysis, and report preparation.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Is willing to travel to customer facilities and nuclear plants as needed (approximately 4–8 trips per year, averaging 4 days per trip).
- This position involves work under U.S. Department of Energy contracts and requires access to nuclear facilities. As a result, U.S. citizenship is required to meet federal compliance and security-access regulations.
