Job Description

The Payroll Analyst / Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing and executing payroll processes across multiple international locations, with a primary operational base in Bulgaria. The role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, strong vendor collaboration, and compliance with both local Bulgarian legislation and international payroll requirements.

This role works closely with the Head of Global Payroll and global stakeholders to deliver high‑quality payroll operations, support payroll transitions and implementations, and contribute to continuous improvement of global payroll processes.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Payroll Operations (Global)

  • Execute end‑to‑end payroll processes for multiple countries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Act as a key operational payroll contact for global entities, supporting BAU payroll activities and covering for other payroll team members as part of a global operating model.
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations, variance analysis, and payroll summaries for Finance and the Head of Global Payroll.

Bulgarian Payroll Ownership

  • Manage and oversee payroll activities specific to Bulgaria, ensuring compliance with local labour law, tax and social security requirements.

Payroll Implementation & Vendor Management

  • Support payroll implementations, transitions, and entity changes in collaboration with internal stakeholders and outsourced payroll providers.
  • Build effective working relationships with global and local payroll vendors, ensuring service delivery meets agreed standards and timelines.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and documentation.

Benefits, Compliance & Employee Support

  • Support payroll‑related benefits and pension activities, including ongoing changes and amendments.
  • Respond to employee payroll queries in a professional, timely, and empathetic manner.
  • Ensure payroll processes are fully documented and audit‑ready; support internal and external payroll audits where required.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential skills

  • Proven experience in a global payroll role, managing payrolls across multiple countries and jurisdictions.
  • Hands‑on experience with Bulgarian payroll processing, including local compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of payroll controls, reconciliations, and post‑payroll validation.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance and tax regulations, including income tax, social security contributions, statutory reporting, and year‑end obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with high‑volume payroll data.
  • Comfortable using AI‑enabled tools (e.g. Microsoft Copilot, automation tools, advanced Excel features) to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, and analysis.
  • Experience working with outsourced or vendor‑managed payroll models.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with international stakeholders.
  • Business‑level written and verbal English is required.

Desirable skills

  • Experience supporting payroll implementations or system/vendor transitions.
  • Exposure to EMEA/APAC and/or multi‑regional payroll operations.
  • Payroll or finance qualifications (e.g. CPP, GPA membership, or local equivalent).
  • Experience working with global payroll/HR/benefits platforms i.e CloudPay/Hibob/ThanksBen.
