Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join our fantastic Toxicology team at our site based in Heathrow. This is a truly exciting time to begin or continue your career with our first-class business, as a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for providing scientific or administrative support to all team members of the Toxicology laboratory.

You will be required to support the effective operation of the laboratory by:

  • Preparing reagents, reference materials and standard solutions in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Carrying out routine checks of quality control materials and calibration solutions, maintaining accurate laboratory records and continuity documentation, and ensuring laboratory equipment, including balances, pipettes and pH meters, is calibrated and maintained to the required standards.
  • Helping maintain the laboratory environment by ensuring work areas are kept clean, organised and compliant with quality and contamination control requirements. 
  • Monitoring consumable and reference material stock levels, ordering supplies in a timely manner and processing goods received to ensure continuity of laboratory operations.

Qualifications

For this role you must have further education in a scientific discipline, be able to keep detailed and timely records of all tasks completed to satisfy quality procedures and have good planning and organisational skills. You must also be adaptable, have a strong sense of accountability and integrity as well as being able to work collaboratively with a team. You must be able to work to deadlines and be IT literate, including Microsoft Office.

Important Information

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, this role will require the successful candidate to achieve NPPV3 + Security Clearance (SC). To be eligible, you must have 5 years’ continuous UK residency.

As part of the vetting process, you’ll be asked to provide information about your background, including your employment and address history, financial circumstances and details of close family or partners. These checks are carried out to ensure individuals accessing police data, systems and sites are trustworthy and suitable for the role.

Factors such as criminal convictions, financial difficulties or associations that may pose a risk could affect your ability to gain clearance. However, each application is assessed on an individual basis, and honesty throughout the process is essential.

Please note:

  • Vetting is carried out by an external police vetting service
  • Drug and alcohol testing may be required before you start and during your employment
  • Ongoing employment is subject to maintaining the required level of clearance
