During the ongoing project, the responsibility for project management, the previously defined laboratory services and the deployment of our employees in this project lies with Eurofins PSS.
Job Description
We are currently seeking a Scientist (Pathogen Safety) to join our PSS team, supporting a leading global biopharmaceutical company in Bern through our on-site managed service. In this role, you will be fully embedded within the client environment, contributing to critical pathogen safety activities as part of our dedicated PSS team.
This is a purely industry-focused role in viral safety. It is not a basic research or academic laboratory position.
Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide scientific and operational support on pathogen safety topics, including control strategies for adventitious agents (e.g., viruses, prions)
- Plan and execute pathogen/viral safety risk assessments related to changes, deviations, investigations, and lifecycle activities
- Support development and optimization of viral clearance strategies and virus validation approaches
- Prepare and review pathogen/viral safety documentation, including technical reports and inspection-ready materials
- Support regulatory submissions (CMC) and responses to health authority queries
- Ensure documentation is compliant, scientifically sound, and aligned with regulatory expectations (e.g., ICH Q5A)
- Collaborate closely with TechOps, Manufacturing, QA, and Regulatory Affairs
- Drive digitalization initiatives within pathogen/viral safety, improving how data is structured, analyzed, and used
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards to monitor viral safety metrics, risk indicators, and process performance
- Perform data-driven trend analyses (e.g., deviations, contamination risks, process data) to support proactive risk management
Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD degree in Life Sciences (e.g. Virology, Biochemistry, Biology, or related field)
- 3–5 years of experience in R&D, Quality, or a related function within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
- Prior GxP experience, e.g. with deviation and change assessments
- Scientific and analytical expertise in virology, biochemistry and/or microbiology
- Strong understanding of Viral safety principles (e.g., ICH Q5A) and virus clearance, inactivation, or validation strategies
- Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization tools, e.g. dashboard development, trend analysis, and reporting automation is a plus
- Strong affinity for digitalization and data-driven decision-making
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; German is an advantage
- Important: Candidates with primarily academic/basic science backgrounds and no industrial exposure will not be considered.
