Job Description
BioMedical Equipment Technician Responsibilities & Duties Include but are not Limited to the following:
The Biomedical Equipment Technician I is responsible for maintaining and calibrating all equipment according to its schedule and ensuring that equipment remains in specification.
- Perform all equipment maintenance and calibration according to each instrument’s user manual and schedule.
- Install and perform verification/validation of new equipment
- Operate equipment as needed
- Maintain on-call status for equipment repair and electronic temperature monitoring system and report to work when notified of equipment out of service or temperature out of specification
- Maintain the equipment inventory system and interface with accounting to ensure all equipment is logged, labeled with a unique identifier and its location is established
- As needed, travel for additional training courses and maintain any required licenses
- Notify the Laboratory Manager if an instrument goes out of service and lock out/tag out the instrument
- Call manufacturer service personnel as needed and interface with service personnel while they are on site
- Capable of identifying problems and troubleshooting
- Maintain the pipet inventory in all labs. Schedule pipet verifications with outside vendors
- Follow the laboratory’s established policies and protocols
- Participate in any required on-the-job, technical, or other training
- Document corrective and preventative actions
- Keep instruments and work areas clean and neat
- Observe all safety guidelines and report any unsafe conditions to the Laboratory Manager or QA Manager
- Participate in the Quality Assurance plan as directed by the President
- Perform other duties and functions as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Minimum Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED with minimum 2–4 years of relevant maintenance, instrumentation, or technical support experience; or
- Bachelor's degree in a related scientific or technical field
Basic Minimum Work Requirements:
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting is ideal, but not required
- Must be able to multitask and keep up in a fast-paced environment.
- Must work well on your own with minimal supervision
- Attentive to detail and maintain a positive attitude
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Must be energetic, dependable and have good attendance
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and time management
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
Additional Information
Position is full-time working Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm, with overtime as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Hunstville, AL are encouraged to apply.
