Job Description

The Metals Analyst is responsible for performing analytical testing with a primary focus on Hexavalent Chromium. The role also supports 6020B and 200.8 Copper/Lead analyses. This position ensures all testing complies with EPA methods, quality control standards, and laboratory safety protocols. The analyst will prepare and analyze samples, manage reagent and consumable inventories, maintain instrumentation, and accurately record results in the LIMS system.

  • Serve as primary analyst for Hexavalent Chromium testing.
  • Perform 6020B and 200.8 (Cu/Pb) analyses as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain method-specific criteria sheets.
  • Assign and track new reagent numbers bi-weekly.
  • Monitor and reorder digestion tubes, sample tubes, acids, and instrument sample/drain lines.
  • Organize metals cart samples by type and numerical order.
  • Perform digestion of wastewater samples or turbidity testing of drinking water samples.
  • Learn and provide backup coverage for Hg method.
  • Initialize and operate instrumentation; prepare calibration standards and QC samples.
  • Run instrument performance and criteria tests.
  • Prepare and analyze all samples and QC per EPA method requirements.
  • Review data for compliance with QC criteria.
  • Record and report results in the LIMS system.
  • Dispose of old samples as time allows.
  • Collaborate with other metals analysts and provide assistance when needed.
  • Be available for weekend work when required.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor or administrative staff.

Qualifications

Basic Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field OR equivalent laboratory experience. 
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Hexavalent Chromium, 6020B, and/or 200.8 methods preferred
  • Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and QA/QC procedures
  • Experience operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation
  • Excellent documentation and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Team-oriented with strong communication skills.

Additional Information

  • Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:30 A.M.- 5:00 PM, with additional time as needed. 
  • Position is located at our Marion, Ohio location. 
  • Position Pay Range is $20.00-22.00/hr based on experience.
