Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The core responsibility of the Food Assurance Certification US BUMA is to design, develop and implement the food assurance strategy and to manage and oversee the food assurance audit and certification business – including applicable management processes - in the US in compliance with the international Assurance Business Line strategy, while managing the activities and operations of the company in accordance with Eurofins Group policies and practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Reporting into the Managing Director/National Business Line Leader Assurance, the Food Assurance Certification US BUMA is responsible for all key strategic, operational and financial elements of the food assurance audit and certification activities in the United States comprised of food safety and integrity certification; supplier auditing, and other aligned assurance services in the food market.  This generally includes the following – whether performed directly or managed through team resources:

  • Primary accountability for the design, development and management of the food assurance US growth strategy for audit and certification services within the Eurofins Food Assurance Business Line; 
  • Primary accountability for understanding and managing all operational and financial elements of the business – including development of actions to address challenges and issue in business results;
  • Responsibility to grow and manage the business of through a full P&L and Balance Sheet;
  • Accountability for revenue and EBITDA growth and targets of the Food Assurance US audit and certification business - driving profitable growth and cost control in areas of influence;
  • Develop and manage a team of managers for food safety and integrity certification and supplier auditing - as well as a supporting structure comprising schedulers and a network of auditors [both employed and contracted] - to effectively execute audit and certification services
  • Effectively manage the human resources within the organization including completion of annual performance reviews for all direct reports and coordinate and review annual reviews of all other personnel
  • Understand and effectively communicate all key client requirements and critical success factors
  • Oversee management of key accounts – understanding how Eurofins Food Assurance can best position itself in relation to the food safety certification, supplier auditing and other Eurofins services not currently utilized by the client
  • Maintain and grow accounts through effective engagement - ensuring exceptional customer service is consistently provided
  • Manage all elements of client satisfaction
  • Maintain current accreditations for all US-based certification programs – leveraging the developed and implemented management processes
  • Engage with Eurofins Food Assurance Business Units in other geographies and the Food and Feed Testing Unites to leverage market leadership within the business line and cross business lines to ensure cross selling opportunities, where appropriate
  • Continually keep abreast of latest developments in the industry through attending events, networking and industry associations and representing Eurofins through active speaking opportunities, participations to industry events, roundtable discussions.
  • Support the development of new services based on upcoming regulations and quasi regulations and according to the country and client`s input
  • Drive Thought Leadership for Food Assurance and increase Eurofins profile to customers, industry associations and stakeholders
  • Potential to develop a mid-term strategy to expand the footprint into Mexico, Central and South America based on delivered results;
  • Actively support the financial success of the company with activities that include, but not limited to:
    • Completing the annual budgeting process
    • Managing capital expenses
    • Analyzing existing monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and developing additional customer-centric KPIs to monitor progress. Ensuring goals and KPIs are communicated to the team and reported on a monthly basis
    • Conducting analyses (e.g. financial, strategic, operational, organizational) as necessary to understand business activities and results

  • Verifies that company employment policies and procedures are being followed correctly
  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

BASIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (BMQ): 

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability required.  

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE (BMQ): 

Bachelors or advanced degree in Food, Quality, Business. At least 5 years' experience in managing similar businesses and /or operations in Europe or similar size.

ADDITIONAL PREFERENCES: 

Leadership Excellence/Business Experience: 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead businesses in relation to Food Assurance services in a local yet globalized environment
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a collaborative environment with knowledge and capabilities to secure appropriate support resources to achieve business goals.
  • A proven track record of managing a business with accountability on P&L
  • Being results orientated and driven to exceed objectives set for turnover, profitability and service promotion is essential
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • High proficiency and fluent in written and spoken English
  • Out of the box thinker, self-motivated, result-driven and working independently
  • Travel is required is required mostly in the US, to a lesser degree in Europe, sometimes Asia

Supervisory Responsibility: 

  • Experience in managing a business unit and workforce in a regional network, remotely.

Ability and/or Skills (BMQ): 

  • Appropriate knowledge to drive, support and insure business growth
  • Ability to motivate and influence others to act in the appropriate business culture and environment
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact successfully with internal and external customers and develop communications and report to upper management.
  • Demonstrated ability with personal computer software in a business environment, including word processing, spreadsheet, and email software, Project Management, and resource planning software.

Other Factors: 

  • Must be able to travel to accomplish the duties of the position. Travel is approximately less than 15% annually.
