Job Description

Eurofins is searching for an attorney to serve in the position of Counsel to join a growing legal team supporting the legal needs of Eurofins’ companies in North America through a national service center model.  This is a generalist position, reporting to the Vice President and General Counsel of Eurofins NSC US, Inc.  Applicants must be interested in utilizing their experience, developing new expertise in a variety of legal areas, managing special projects, and developing processes and procedures that support the delivery of legal services.  The companies you will support are primarily testing laboratories in the Pharmaceutical, Clinical Diagnostics, Genomics, Agroscience, Products and Technologies fields.  This is a hybrid position, with the expectation that Counsel will come into the office, located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for part of the work week.

The responsibilities for the position of Counsel include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provide general legal advice and support to operations of 80+ testing laboratories in North America and other groups within the National Service Center

Provide advice and counsel on employment matters to HR professionals and business managers regarding US federal state and local laws (e.g., compliance with Title VII, ADAAA, FLSA, FMLA and state/local sick leave laws, FCRA, privacy laws, multistate drug testing issues, enforcement of restrictive covenants, federal contractor requirements, etc.)

Develop, review, and revise internal policies and procedures to ensure multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance 

Research legal questions and clearly communicate recommendations on ways to minimize the companies’ legal exposure in operations and transactions

Work with the corporate paralegal team and various Eurofins’ companies’ contracting teams, with the assistance of outside counsel, to draft, review and negotiate agreements for the provision of laboratory testing services as well as the purchase of materials, supplies and services and other contracts, including NDAs

Facilitate compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Develop and deliver trainings on variety of legal topics

Assess and advise on legal claims, including employment, commercial, and general liability claims

Provide support in corporate development initiatives

Engage, supervise and manage outside counsel on threatened and active litigation matters

Work with outside counsel and business managers to protect and develop Eurofins’ portfolio of intellectual property, including but not limited to patents and licenses

Train and oversee the activities of the litigation paralegal including, the general day-to-day management of litigation, invoice review and processing, responding to subpoenas, and other paralegal activities

Qualifications

The ideal candidate possesses:

Experience with employment matters including knowledge of employment laws, such as Title VII, ADAAA, FLSA, FMLA and federal contractor requirements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong analytic skills, sound judgment and practical business sensibility

Ability to effectively assess and prioritize risks

Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively and influence decision makers

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with competing priorities, and to meet deadlines

Ability to adapt to changing circumstances

Ability to work with collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the companies

Positive energy and motivation to develop and contribute to a collegial and highly effective legal team

Professionalism, discretion, diplomacy, and tact

Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity

Basic Minimum Qualifications:

Law Degree (Juris Doctor) from accredited US law school

Admission to Pennsylvania Bar or eligibility for admission as in-house counsel

At least 7 years’ experience in law practice; within a minimum of 2 years in-house experience

Availability for potential travel 10% of time (flexible work schedule to accommodate varying time zones)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Excel, Sharepoint
