Job Description
Primary Purpose: Under direct supervision of the Laboratories manager, this position is responsible for conducting sample preparation and analysis using the appropriate analytical methods.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Preparation and analysis of environmental samples using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM);
- Preparation and analysis of environmental samples using Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM);
- Cross training in other analysis and areas of testing;
- Ensure that company policies are adhered to;
- Ensure that work-scheduling procedures adequately address client needs;
- Provide customer service to clients;
- Responsible for the data reported by the laboratory;
- Ensure that QA/QC standards are implemented, understood, and administered, as per company policy;
- Supports the QC program;
- Data entry into LIMS system;
- Work collectively and collaborate in a Team environment;
- Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material;
- Must be able to see accurately sight colors through microscope;
- Submits all QC data reports as directed;
- Establishes or adjusts workflow to meet turnaround time schedules;
- Operate an autoclave;
- Ensure that company polices are adhered to;
- Ensure that work-scheduled procedures adequately address client needs;
- Provide customer service to clients;
- Other laboratory duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be already proficiently trained and experienced in analyzing for asbestos using PLM
- University degree or college diploma in a science field.
- Basic computer literacy;
- Laboratory safety and WHMIS training;
- Technical knowledge of applicable test methods
- Monday to Friday: 7:30am to 4pm (potential weekend/evening work as required).
