Job Description

The Role

The role will involve supporting the existing infrastructure including servers, storage, network, data and applications as well as project based work to improve and enhance the infrastructure environment. The Systems Administrator will have a solid background working within a busy IT team, with experience in designing and implementing technical solutions, supporting of servers, desktops, and operating systems. We are looking for an individual with strong technical troubleshooting and problem solving skills and experience.

In addition, depending on projects and tasks, the individual will be required to be available for queries during out of office hours and will be expected to deal with any system issues as and when they occur.

Key responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Handle escalated calls from first/second line IT Service Desk
  • Administer and maintain corporate infrastructure
    • LAN/WAN, Firewalls, Switches, Routers, Wireless AP, Computers, Printers etc.  
  • Administer the VMware vSphere 6.5 multisite complex Infrastructure
    • Manage, support and administrate ESXi 6.5 physical hosts and local storage
    • Manage, support and administrate ESXi Clusters and VCSA with shared storage
  • Administrate and support Remote Desktop Services 2016 that runs business core app.
  • Perform daily backup operations on Commvault (where applicable):
    • Ensure integrity of backup media and media is hosted off-site;
    • Perform regular test restores and DR testing.
  • Build, configuration and implementation of local servers and ensure error-free and efficient implementation and functioning of the servers;
    • Patch servers with Microsoft WSUS Critical Updates;
    • Ensure all systems are updated with the latest Ani-Virus definitions and encryption
    • Administer, Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, Classifier
  • Administrate, support and maintain multisite Exchange 2016 DAG environment (virtual), Windows 2012/2016 physical clusters with local and shared storage.   
  • Perform daily backup operations on Commvault (where applicable):
    • Ensure integrity of backup media and media is hosted off-site;
    • Perform regular test restores and DR testing.
  • To diagnose and resolve software and hardware incidents, including operating systems (Windows 7 and 10, 2008, 2012, 2016) and across a range of software applications.
  • Install, upgrade, configure and support enterprise applications such as MS Office and Boldon James Classifier and those hosted on windows server 2008/2012/2016 and RDS.
  • Responsible for monitoring, operating, managing, troubleshooting and restoring to service personal computers (PC) or notebooks that has authorized access to the network
  • Ticket handling using in-house helpdesk system and assist all our users via phone, desk-side and remote support with any logged IT related incidents or service requests
  • To take ownership of issues by carrying out problem analysis to implement temporary or permanent fixes with the aim of restoring service to the customer as soon as possible; escalating incidents to other support teams where necessary.
  • To maintain a first class level of customer service ensuring that all customers are treated efficiently and in an appropriate manner.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Ensure all necessary technical support is provided to all internal users and maintain users' satisfaction in the specific fields of responsibilities.

Qualifications

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar support role in a large multi-site environment.  Adhering to SLA’s and meeting KPI’s
  • In depth experience of Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 administration, including AD/DHCP/DNS/GPO administration etc.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of supporting Windows 7 and Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise.
  • Strong hardware support skills, including maintenance of Servers / computers, printers and other associated equipment.
  • Active Directory and Exchange 2016 DAG administration.
  • Significant experience in server and Desktop deployments and builds both using RES and manual process.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with lab environment
  • Previous experience with handling of sensitive data

 

Technical / Work-based Skills

Essential

Strong technical knowledge of:

  • Networking in general, (Cisco), Routers, Firewall and VPN skills
  • Microsoft Active Directory
  • VMware 6.5 Configuration and Administration
  • Knowledge of backup systems (preferably CommVault)
  • Security patching, McAfee AV and Encryption.
  • Distributed File System (DFS)
  • RDS 2016 administration
  • Windows 2012/2016 Clustering

Additional Information

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have three years continuous residency in the UK. Criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance.  In addition, this role will require alcohol/drug screening.
