Job Description
As the Director, Patient Engagement, you will be at the forefront of Ergomed’s commitment to patient centricity in collaboration with our clients, potential clients, patient organizations, and umbrella organizations. You will develop a proactive methodology for interactions with patient organizations to leverage patient and care network insights to be included in Ergomed’s proposals for new business and will support the project teams with ongoing patient engagement initiatives This role oversees the fostering of relationships with patient organizations as well as the collection and organization of insights/from patients and/or their advocates to support the development of the Win Strategy for Ergomed’s proposals for new business. This role further oversees the successful execution of awarded work in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines. In collaboration with the SVP, Strategic Solutions & Patient Centricity (SSPC), this role will also support any ongoing patient engagement or patient support activities undertaken by Ergomed.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Support overall operational strategy globally, with a focus on our key therapeutic areas of Oncology and Rare Disease, so as to maximize Ergomed’s revenue and reputation by ensuring that relevant data from patients, patient advocates, and other data sources are researched, aggregated, and available to the Directors of Operational Strategy (DOSs) in the timelines required to prepare and deliver high quality, well-research proposals to Ergomed’s potential clients.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and development opportunities to team members, enhancing their capabilities and expertise with regard to ethical patient engagement practices (e.g., patient engagement officers or patient journey liaisons).
- Leverage your comprehensive understanding of patient advocacy organization dynamics to foster productive relationships based on dignity, trust, and transparency to enhance Ergomed’s ability to advise our clients and potential clients on any patient-centric considerations, which impact the design of strategic plans for successful trial outcomes.
- Work closely with the Business Development department as necessary to contribute patient-centric insights during the proposal and client engagement phases, enhancing Ergomed's ability to win new clinical trial contracts.
- Develop and present comprehensive data summaries that highlight Ergomed's understanding of the patient journey, supporting the value of our strategic solutions.
Role and Responsibilities

- Develop materials to support Ergomed’s teams in bid defenses. Participate in bid defense preparation and bid defense meetings as requested.
- Develop service offerings, tools, and/or other resources to support patient-centricity in the design and execution of Ergomed’s clinical trials.
- Perform or oversee the performance of ongoing patient-centric activities when Ergomed is contracted to provide such services.
- Implement and oversee a process for the management the collection of data regarding patient advocate interactions and ensure the quality and privacy of this data.
- Build the Patient Engagement function, by defining the value-added outputs from this team, and structuring the interactions with key stakeholders such as Legal, Privacy, and Regulatory.
- Support the growth of the Patient Engagement function to gather insights from key stakeholders in diverse geographic regions, so as to better inform our understanding of the disease burden, the patient and care network experience, the attractiveness and relevance of the scientific endpoints under investigation, and the viability of the protocol design for patients and their care networks by leveraging geographically diverse team members who may be able to provide such information or by creating programs or initiatives to generate this data.
- Support and promote a patient-centric approach across all stages of clinical trial planning and execution, ensuring trial execution strategies are designed with patient needs and experiences at the forefront.
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert regarding patient advocacy activities and patient-centric approaches to support clinical trial execution (e.g., perform reviews of pediatric assent forms or trial awareness materials).
- Remain up to date on changes in the regulatory environment that impact how sponsors, sponsor representatives, vendors, and sites are permitted to interact with patients or patient advocates collaborating with Operations team leads as appropriate (e.g., regulatory, legal, study start-up, etc.).
- Participate in the identification, evaluation, selection and performance oversight of patient recruitment, patient concierge, or patient materials vendors as necessary.
- Represent the Company by attending industry meetings, speaking engagements, participating in
booth exhibitions, etc., and by publishing scientific or industry related articles in industry journals as requested.
- Support the SSPC departmental goal of establishing Ergomed as a recognized authority in patient-centric clinical trial strategy within the broader pharmaceutical and clinical research landscape.
- In conjunction with the SVP, SPCC, support Ergomed’s Environmental, Social, and Governance activities as the intersect with patient support activities.
- May serve as a line manager for direct report(s) as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific, medical, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
- Experience serving as a patient engagement officer consultant in a pharmaceutical company, biotech company, or CRO.
- Detailed knowledge of clinical research strategy on a global basis, the dynamics of patient advocacy organizations and the relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines that govern the interaction between sponsor companies and patients/patient advocates.
- Previous line management or mentoring experience a plus.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Effective organizational, presentation, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership and communication, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Solutions provider; converts challenges to opportunities.
- Fluency in English (both written & oral) is required.
- Experience working with multiple clients and customers; maintaining high level client interactions, including Bid Defenses as required.
