Summary
Responsible for operating vehicles for the purpose of transporting passengers and assisting with custodial 
maintenance functions of the vehicle as required. Works with Safety/Security team to help ensure the 
security and safety of students and staff, buildings, vehicles, and property by checking persons, center 
grounds, doors, windows, lighting, appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment. Performs 
guard and administrative duties to assist in the protection of life and property against theft, misappropriation, 
fire, flood, or similar disaster.

Essential Functions

1. Drives center vehicles.
2. Maintains center vehicles in a clean and safe manner.
3. Performs accurate and timely recording and reporting.
4. Transport non-residential students to and from the center, when necessary.
5. Transports students to and from work-based learning (WBL) and off-center training, activities, and 
medical/dental appointments.
6. Transports students to and from the center’s designated arrival point using government-paid 
transportation.
7. Tests fire and intrusion alarms; reports malfunctions.
8. Conducts search and seizures in dormitory as needed by Safety/Security Department.
9. Confiscate contraband, weapons, etc., and deliver confiscated items to the Safety/Security 
Manager for proper disposal.
10. Assists the Center staff and law officers in controlling disturbances; investigates and prepares
reports as needed.
11. Transports students on a scheduled or emergency basis.
12. Assists in transporting ill and/or injured students, staff, or others requiring medical attention.
13. Prepare any related motor vehicle reports.
14. Maintains student accountability in accordance with accountability policy and procedures.
15. Inform staff and students of unsafe practices and conditions.
16. Provides security gate/desk coverage when not operating vehicle; ensures that proper check-out
and check-in procedures are followed and properly documented.
17. Performs enforcement duties in accordance with federal law, state statutes, and center rules and 
regulations to maintain the peace and safety of students and staff.
18. Patrols buildings and grounds to ensure the safety and physical security of buildings and property 
by checking doors, windows, lights, electrical appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency 
equipment.
19. Maintains a log of vehicle-related findings and corrective actions taken.
20. Checks identification of personnel seeking entrance to or exit from the grounds and permits or 
denies entrance or exit according to established policies and procedures.
21. Responds to fire alarms, takes necessary steps to report fires, assists in suppressing fires, and 
resets alarm equipment.
22. Sets up and checks operation of intrusion alarm systems in buildings as required.
23. Assists staff and law enforcement personnel in controlling disturbances; takes initial reports and

conducts preliminary investigation of crimes.
24. Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
25. Acts as a responsible custodian for the assigned center property.
26. Reports violations of unethical behavior.
27. Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and a reduction of waste.
28. Identifies and reports on environmental health and safety concerns.
29. Able to maintain a 75% or higher on employee scorecard.

Required Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience
• Associate’s degree in criminal justice is desirable and may be substituted for experience.
• One year of experience in firefighting, law enforcement, or safety and security desired
• Previous experience working with youth preferred.
• One year of experience as a driver.
Certifications/Competencies
• General knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair
• Ability to maintain a vehicle mechanically.
• Unencumbered CDL.
• Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, 
state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
• Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, 
mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through 
interventions.
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications
• If the position requires driving, a valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable 
driving record is required.
• I-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
• Successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check and drug test
