Job Description

  • Join our team of 6 Coding Educators/Auditors – be supported by your peers
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of education and auditing, implement systems, use analytics and automate processes
  • Support a growing coding team across multiple acute, rehabilitation, and mental health services
  • Enjoy variety in your role with option to rotate between portfolios of Education & Auditing
  • You have the option to be based at Epworth Richmond, Epworth Geelong or Epworth Eastern

The Coding Educator / Auditor plays a pivotal role in shaping the direction of our coding services. You’ll be trusted to lead in your space, with the tools, autonomy, and team support to thrive. Depending on team priorities and business requirements, you may choose to specialise in education or auditing portfolios

In the education portfolio you will provide education, support and training to all Health Information Managers (HIMs)/Clinical Coders across Epworth HealthCare. Of particular focus are newly employed HIMs/Clinical Coders who undertake the Coding Induction Program, ensuring these staff develop high level coding skills.

In the auditing portfolio you will be involved in overseeing the comprehensive Epworth Internal Coding Auditing Program as well as providing responses to Health funds for both pre and post payment audit and rejections. It contributes to revenue optimisation strategies both during the coding process and through post-coding audits. Additionally, the role coordinates external audits conducted by our funders.

To thrive in this full time role (open to part time), you’ll be a proactive professional with exceptional time management skills and a strong commitment to seeing tasks through to completion. Your keen eye for detail will support the delivery of high-quality education and contribute to improved audit outcomes across the organisation.

With your extensive coding expertise, you’ll foster a culture of accountability, elevate coding quality, and inspire the next generation of Health Information Managers and Clinical Coders at Epworth.

To be successful for this role, you will have:

  • Excellent classification and casemix funding knowledge, with a minimum of three years’ coding experience in a medium to large, health service.
  • Previous experience as an Educator and/or Auditor is highly desirable.
  • Extensive clinical coding expertise, with a strong understanding of Australian Coding Standards and hospital coding practices.
  • Proven ability to educate and mentor clinical coders, including developing and delivering training programs.
  • Strong auditing skills, with experience in auditing and a focus on revenue optimisation.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Resilience under pressure, with the ability to make informed decisions aligned with Epworth’s needs.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification, such as a Bachelor of Health Information Management or Certificate IV in Clinical Classification (Advanced), or equivalent.
  • Eligible for full membership of Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA)
