Epidemiologist (M/F), Open ended contract, based in Rio - Brazil

  • Full-time

Company Description

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization created in 1971 that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural disasters. MSF offers assistance to people based only on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. MSF is present in over seventy countries.

Epicentre is an organisation created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 1986. We conduct field epidemiology, training, and research activities for MSF interventions. Our activities for populations in precarious situations are led from Uganda, Niger, and France, and through the programs of MSF and others. They mainly concern infectious diseases and undernutrition.

BRAMU is an independent medical unit within MSF, funded and accountable only to MSF-Brazil directorate. Since its creation in late 2007, BRAMU has changed its portfolio and approach. In the early days, it focused on TB, HIV, training, having progressively changed to pediatrics, emerging infectious diseases (with strong focus on Chagas, dengue and arboviruses). In past years, the growing challenges around migration, other situations of violence, environmental health challenges and emerging health conditions have made the unit move towards a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach through applied social sciences, medicine and epidemiology.

Its level of autonomy allows room for strong initiatives, challenging the status quo, out of the box thinking and innovative approaches. It also bounds us to a greater accountability, engagement and measurable outcomes towards the missions, the office and the movement.
