Job Description

The Environmental Driver Specialist CDLB will travel to customer locations on an assigned route and will be responsible for packing, transporting, and properly disposing of waste materials in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations and Clean Earth policies.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

· Classify, segregate, and inventory waste containers in storage for shipment.

· Load and secure materials and waste or unload truck at various customer sites or Clean Earth locations.

· Label, package, and transport waste safely according to all local, State, Federal, FMCSA, DOT, and company safety guidelines.

· Complete and review required paperwork in accordance with appropriate regulations and customer policies, practices, and procedures (e.g. route sheet, manifests, BOLs, etc.).

· Prepare and load truck with necessary supplies and perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicle daily.

· Follow routing software route schedule and complete assigned route while remaining in compliance with DOT hours of service.

· Complete services to our customers in various industries such as but not limited to, Retail Services, M&I, Hospital Accounts, Special Projects, etc., based on Client and Company needs.

· Provide the highest level of customer service to customers daily while communicating any issues to management for resolution.

· Perform warehouse work related to receipt, shipment, storage, distribution, or delivery of waste materials.

· Load, unload, move, or store items using a hand truck, forklift, or other heavy equipment according to delivery or routing documents, or supervisor instructions, and performing general housekeeping duties.

· Based on site level and/or location, may be required to handle DEA waste.

· Report any incidents, injuries or safety concerns to management in a timely manner.

· Adhere to and abide by CE safety and security policies and procedures (e.g. Cardinal Rules, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and Transportation Manual).

· Other duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned by management.

Work Environment:

· Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods including climbing in and out of the back of a commercial truck.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly without assistance and up to 75 pounds unassisted on occasion.

· Ability to push and pull up to 500 pounds using a pallet jack, hand truck, or other device to assist.

· Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and indoors in non-climate-controlled environments.

· Visual acuity to read labels and documentation and sufficient depth perception to safely operate forklifts.

· Ability to hear vehicle warning chimes, alarms, and other audible safety signals.

· Ability and willingness to wear company-issued personal protection equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed boots, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator.

· Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving vehicles, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals.

· Ability to work overtime hours as needed based on business needs.

· Based on service center level and location, this position may require up to 4 overnight stays per week (with paid hotel expenses and a nightly per diem).

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Skills:

· Education: (BA or BS degree required or preferred)

o High school diploma or GED

 

· Experience: (Required minimum of years of relevant experience.)

o Must be 21 years of age in accordance with FMCSA guidelines

o Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License

o Maintain a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) and valid TWIC card

o HAZMAT and/or Tanker endorsement preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

o 1+ years route driving experience preferred

o 1+ years of waste industry experience preferred

o Experience with a Vac Truck, straight truck, or combo vehicle as well as roll-off bins/boxes preferred

· Skills: (The skills listed are the abilities and knowledge required to perform the job effectively.)

o Ability to operate powered equipment such as a forklift

o Ability to operate a computer and printer to complete paperwork and web-based training

o Ability to operate a mobile device and follow a hands-free GPS to ensure safe driving

o Strong working knowledge of Environmental/Regulatory/DOT rules and regulations

o Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug test, and/or DEA background check

o Ability to politely deal with customers and team members

o Ability to read a map

o Fluency in verbal and written English
