Job Description
The Mechanic is primarily responsible for maintaining the thermal soil remediation process equipment and mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner. This position will also be required to assist with facility operations as needed including the operation of heavy equipment, soil processing equipment, and the soil remediation plant.
This is a first shift position that requires the ability to periodically work weekends and overtime, as required.
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Primary responsibility for plant equipment repairs and preventative maintenance (screeners, conveyors, thermal soil remediation plant components, air pollution control equipment, etc.) and heavy equipment repairs and preventative maintenance (wheel loaders, excavators, etc.).
- Perform and document daily equipment condition checks and monitor all plant production and processing equipment. Inspect the condition of the machinery/facility components and communicate items in need of repair or service to management.
- Maintenance tasks for buildings and grounds, as needed.
- Maintain accurate equipment maintenance records and inspection reports.
- Work directly with Operations and Environmental, Health and Safety staff to prioritize maintenance related tasks.
- Develop maintenance work orders and source supplies, parts, materials and services as needed. Obtain quotes, place orders for parts and services, and manage materials/parts/supply inventory.
- Proficient in heavy equipment operations and assist Operations as needed by running heavy equipment or plant processing equipment.
- Work independently in a safe and efficient manner and to follow safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean work environment, including cleaning shop and equipment as scheduled or necessary.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Basic Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of experience performing equipment troubleshooting/repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and/or combustion systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of equipment maintenance.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using basic hand tools and/or power tools to assist with completing repairs.
- Welding (MIG and stick) and fabrication skills preferred.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems.
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and combustion systems.
- Knowledge of equipment inspection, preventative maintenance, and cleaning standards.
- Experience operating and monitoring heavy equipment and computerized plant processing equipment.
- Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, follow directions, prioritize tasks, and work unsupervised at times.
- Must be dependable, conscientiousness, detail-oriented, and have a safety-first attitude.
- Ability to deal politely and professionally with customers and/or coworkers.
- Willingness and ability to wear company-issued personal protection equipment including eye protection, foot protection, hard hat, etc.
