Job Description
Position Summary & Objective
The Senior Welding Engineer will be responsible for technical development and application of all welding operations within the organization. This includes developing and implementing welding procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, conducting quality control inspections, and providing technical expertise and support to the welding team and to the engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in welding processes, materials, and equipment, as well as excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Essential Functions Performed by the Position
- Develop and implement welding procedures and specifications in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
- Provide technical expertise and support to the welding team, including troubleshooting welding issues and providing guidance on welding techniques and best practices.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as design, supply chain and project management to ensure welding requirements are met.
- Train and mentor welding technicians and operators on proper welding techniques, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
Conduct quality control inspections to ensure welds meet specified standards and requirements. - Develop and maintain welding documentation, including weld maps, inspection reports, and welder qualifications.
- Monitor and evaluate welding equipment and tools and recommend upgrades or replacements.
- Research and implement the most suitable welding techniques, materials, and equipment for specific projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of welding processes, techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of industry standards and regulations related to welding, such as AWS D1.1 and ASME Section IX.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot welding issues and propose effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to welding operations.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in welding engineering or a related role.
Licenses or Certifications Required
- Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is preferred.
