Job Description
About the Role:
Sustainability & Certification
- Lead assessments of suitable sustainability certification pathways, with a primary focus on Envision, and advise leadership on feasibility and strategic value.
- If certification proceeds, coordinate end‑to‑end activities to secure certification, including gap analysis, documentation, and alignment across design, construction, and stakeholder groups.
- Help identify opportunities for low‑carbon, resilient, and environmentally responsible design.
Climate Mitigation & Carbon Management
- Assess lifecycle carbon emissions to identify carbon‑intensive hotspots and opportunities for reductions across design and construction.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor project carbon management plans, ensuring carbon criteria are embedded into engineering, optioneering, procurement, and value‑engineering.
- Demonstrate project alignment with Net‑Zero trajectories.
Climate Risk & Adaptation
- Lead or support Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessments, identifying solutions that strengthen infrastructure resilience under evolving climate conditions.
- Collaborate with Environmental and Design Leads to embed climate‑adapted, nature‑based, self‑regulating systems into projects.
Circular Economy & Resource Efficiency
- Work closely with Design and Procurement teams to advance circular‑economy strategies, including material reuse, recycled aggregates, local sourcing, reduced embodied carbon, and improved waste management.
Biodiversity & Greenspace Enhancement
- Support integration of native planting, habitat improvements, and greenspace restoration.
Community & Stakeholder Support
- Partner with Communications and Stakeholder teams to provide technical sustainability and climate input for community briefings, engagement sessions, and project messaging.
Internal Capacity Building
Assist in developing sustainability and climate‑resilience learning tools and resources for staff teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related field.
- 5–10 years of related experience in sustainability or climate‑resilience roles.
- Strong knowledge of sustainability certifications such as Envision, LEED, and proven experience with Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and carbon life-cycle reporting.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- P.Eng. or eligibility is an asset.
- Fluency in French is an asset.
Preferred Assets
- Experience with major infrastructure or transit projects.
- Knowledge of sustainable procurement, nature‑based solutions, or municipal climate strategies.
