Job Description
An Airport Operations Director is responsible for overseeing all operations, safety, and regulatory compliance at an airport or aerodrome. This role is crucial for ensuring that airport facilities and services are managed proficiently, promoting efficient air traffic services, and maintaining high safety standards. Below are the key responsibilities, qualifications, skills, and aspects of this job profile.
Operational Oversight:
- Oversees day-to-day operations of the aerodrome
- Ensures efficient airport operations including Ground Handling, Passenger Services, and cargo management.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensures compliance with local, national, and international aviation regulations.
- Develops and enforces safety protocols to mitigate risks and enhance safety standards.
Regulatory Affairs
- Liaises with government authorities and aviation regulatory bodies.
- Stays updated on changes in aviation laws and regulations.
Budgeting and Financial Management
- Prepares, manage, and monitor the aerodrome budget.
- Optimizes operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Team Leadership
- Leads and motivates a diverse team of professionals in various departments.
- Fosters a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Strategic Planning
- Develops long-term strategic plans for the aerodrome’s growth and development.
- Identifies opportunities for expansion, modernization, and increased capacity.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Builds and maintains relationships with airlines, service providers, and community stakeholders.
- Advocates for the aerodrome’s interests within the local community and industry.
Crisis Management
- Develops and implements emergency response plans.
- Manages crisis situations effectively, ensuring minimal disruption.
Replacement
- The Airport Operations Director may temporarily replace the CEO when on leave, or for any other reason until the latter’s return or his/her permanent replacement is found.
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor's degree in aviation management, business administration, engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant certifications (such as ACI Airport Management Professional Accreditation or equivalent) are a plus
Experience :
5 years experience in Airport Operations Management, or a related field.
Skills :
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English for effective stakeholder engagement and reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for evaluating operations and making data-driven decisions.
- Good negotiation skills for dealing with contracts, budgets, and stakeholders.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions during emergencies.
Regulatory Knowledge :
In-depth understanding of aviation regulations and safety standards.
