Project Description

The goal of the USAID Teacher Excellence Initiative Activity project is to improve the quality and relevance of teacher preparation in Egyptian public universities so that current and future primary school teachers have enhanced skills to increase student learning and advance the Ministry of Education and Technical Education’s (MOETE) reform. The activity will achieve this goal through the following results: 

  • At least 7,500 pre-service teachers in undergraduate programs at Faculties of Education in five Egyptian universities have the skills and knowledge to apply practice-based, experiential teaching methods in the classroom. 
  • 5,000 teachers in postgraduate diploma programs at Faculties of Education in at least 15 Egyptian partner universities apply practice-based, experiential teaching methods in the classroom.

50 Government of Egypt personnel from the MOETE, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), and the Supreme Council of Universities demonstrate improved capacity to jointly plan, manage, and adapt teacher education.

Job Description

Job Summary:

The post graduate program Specialist will work with the Egyptian Faculties of Education in the sixteen targeted universities and with partners to support developing/revising a postgraduate program for primary school teachers that is in alignment with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education’s (MOETE) education reform policies.  S/He will work with FOEs and key education stakeholders to support defining frameworks, and gain approval of the revised/new postgraduate program from relevant bodies.  S/He will also work with Partners to provide mentoring and training as needed and appropriate for faculty of education.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the program design for professional diploma programs that support primary teacher preparation, including pedagogy approach.
  • Support the development and logistics related to workshops in syllabi and course design for faculties of education (FOEs).
  • Support the development of training manuals and materials.
  • Review and analyze recommendations that contribute to improved teacher preparation programs, in close coordination with other experts.
  • Participate in the design and delivery of face-to-face and virtual training.
  • Coordinate with the different faculties of education for holding training workshops.
  • Develop the training events’ reports.
  • Participate in technical discussions and ongoing planning related to the development and delivery of postgraduate teacher preparation programs, with particular attention to priority themes such as multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary learning, assessment, action research, entrepreneurship, practicum programs, universal design of learning, and educational technology.
  • Write minutes of meetings.
  • Collaborate with the pre-service team in designing and implementing joined activities.

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications required for the In-Service Specialist position are:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in education; PhD preferred..

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven relevant experience in program development in higher education, preferably with a focus on primary teaching.
  • Minimum of 6-7 years of experience in similar positions.
  • Background experience in design and delivery training.
  • Strong ability in using MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience with USAID projects is preferred.

Language:

  • Very good command of English proficiency.

Additional Information

This position is located in the county office in Cairo and reports to the Senior Postgraduate Advisor. Travel is required as needed.

This position will maintain close communication relationships with the technical and operation team and other staff as relevant.
