Job Description

The Associate Director will lead the pre-award function within the Office of Sponsored Programs, including leading strategy discussions, directing proposal process refinements, and approving all institutional proposals. In addition, the Associate Director will assist the Director in providing management and oversight to the entire Office of Sponsored Programs. The Associate Director is responsible for all aspects of staff management and development of the Assistant Directors and Grant Administrators, as assigned by the Director.

The Associate Director will:

  • Direct, manage, and provide strategic vision to all pre-award activities
  • Serve as the primary signatory on pre-award documents
  • Provide analysis, expert guidance, and evaluation of proposal submissions for a variety of sponsors, including federal, state, and local agencies, foundations, and for-profit corporations.
  • Coordinate documentation and recommend changes to policies, procedures and guidelines in the areas of proposal submission to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, terms and conditions, i.e., 2 CFR 200, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), NSF PAPPG, USAID, etc.
  • Develop and supervise a team of research administrators, including assigning work and evaluating performance; resolving performance issues; developing staff through goal setting and strong direct communication and feedback; and hiring.
  • In collaboration with team members and division development staff, develop and deliver trainings, workshops and other activities for an internal and external audience.
  • Contribute to award compliance, post award administration, and sub award processes as required by the Director.
  • In coordination with the Director and senior OSP team, identify strategic goals.
  • Ensure accurate and timely input and maintenance of data in EDC’s systems and compile proposal and award statistics, in coordination with system administrator, for organizational reporting.
  • Serve as the back-up signatory to the Director on grants, contracts and other business documents.

 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Other skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 10-15 years related experience
  • Significant knowledge and experience in developing, reviewing, and submitting large, complex sponsored research proposals with significant financial, regulatory, and compliance oversight requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal regulations and sponsor guidelines related to sponsored program activity, including the Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance at 2 CFR 200 and the Federal Acquisition Regulations. Knowledge of non-federal sponsor requirements a plus.
  • Evidence of leadership and ability to evaluate and direct the work of others, with a commitment to mentoring, coaching, and developing a team.
  • Position requires sound business judgement and financial expertise, as well as excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. The ability to generate multiple alternatives when solving problems is critical to success in this role.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $100,000 – $145,000.  Salary offers are made based on market analysis and internal equity.
