Job Description

The Accounting & Finance Department in the Business Services Division  is looking for a Senior Accountant I (International) who will be under the supervision of the Associate Director, International Accounting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Senior Accountant I (International) is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

Responsible for providing accounting and finance support to EDC’s international operations, the Senior Accountant I (International) will:

  • Collect and review monthly accounting reports from international projects
  • Prepare and process monthly accounting reports from international projects into EDC’s financial systems
  • Ensure that weekly cash requests from assigned projects are appropriate and wired to the field office in a timely manner
  • Ensure timely receipt of monthly bank statements from field offices
  • Prepare monthly field office bank account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items to ensure timely resolution
  • Prepare petty cash, advance, and tax accrual reconciliations and investigate reconciling items to ensure timely resolution
  • Receive, review and file supporting documentation for monthly field office reports
  • Maintain tracking spreadsheets of accounting information on a monthly basis
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned
  • May travel internationally

Qualifications

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills.

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Other skills/experience: 

  • At least 3 years of experience in an Accounting department
  • Familiarity with accounting cycle
  • Competence in related computer applications including MS Office 2000 or later version, particularly Excel and Word, and ideally Access or similar database [others may be specified]
  • Analytical & numerical skills and aptitude for details and accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and to respond to changing business needs

Language: 

  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency or near fluency in a second language (French preferred)

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $54,000 – $69,000.  Salary offers are made based on market analysis and internal equity.
