Project Description

The goal of the Teacher Excellence Initiative (TEI) project is to improve the quality and relevance of teacher preparation in Egyptian public universities so that current and future primary school teachers have enhanced skills to increase student learning and advance the Ministry of Education and Technical Education’s (MOETE) reform. The activity will achieve this goal through the following results:

  1. At least 7,500 pre-service teachers in undergraduate programs at Faculties of Education in five Egyptian universities have the skills and knowledge to apply practice-based, experiential teaching methods in the classroom.
  2. 5,000 in-service teachers in postgraduate programs at Faculties of Education in 15 Egyptian universities apply practice-based, experiential teaching methods in the classroom.
  3. 50 Government of Egypt personnel from the MOETE, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), and the Supreme Council of Universities demonstrate improved capacity to jointly plan, manage, and adapt teacher education.

Job Description

The Study Tour Coordinator maintains a portfolio of study tour programs and works to accomplish key TEI program objectives. The Study Tour Coordinator ensures that work is performed efficiently, problems are resolved promptly, and that EDC procedures and USAID policies are followed. The Study Tour Coordinator will be responsible for all logistical, administrative, and travel requirements during the different stages of study tours. This position reports to the Capacity Building Manager. This is a full-time position based in Cairo, Egypt.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Prepare US participants’ training documents, communicating directly with USAID representatives to finalize R-3 packages including visa, travel documents, vetting and medical requirements, as well as obtaining approvals on study tour plans and itinerary.  
  • Responsible for all pre-departure activities and processing, troubleshooting, and support.
  • Serve as R1 (Initiator) on TEAM,  the USAID TraiNet and Visa compliance system.
  • Serve as a constant resource to ensure that all USAID approvals including waivers, nomination lists, training material, clearances, and other requirements are completed.
  • Coordinate participants’ travel arrangements within Egypt and to and from the US.
  • Assist the Capacity Building Manager in planning, budgeting, designing, implementing and monitoring study tour program requirements.
  • Assist participants in completing and submitting US visa applications (DS 160).
  • Liaise with USAID representative to arrange visa interview appointments, follow up on visa issuance and passport collections for study tour participants
  • Work with the Capacity Building Manager in designing and leading pre-departure orientation. 
  • Work with the M&E Department to coordinate re-entry debriefings.
  • Fulfill other tasks and duties as directed by the Capacity Building Manager.

 

Qualifications

The candidate for the position of Study Tour Coordinator shall have at a minimum the following qualifications:

Education:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or any related field.

Qualifications:

  • 4 years of relevant experience in program coordination, showing progressively more responsibility.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in training for USAID funded projects, preferred.
  • Fine attention to detail, especially when working with large amounts of data and inputs
  • Ability to respond effectively to time sensitive demands & inquiries 
  • Proficiency using Microsoft office suite, and other relevant software
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in both English and Arabic; ability to draft official correspondence in English and Arabic.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to relate to people at all levels of an organization and of different backgrounds
  • Extremely well organized and self-directed

Language:

Fluency in English is required.
