The National Center on Health, Behavioral Health, and Safety (NCHBHS) in the Early Childhood Portfolio within the U.S. Division has an opening for a Training & Technical Assistance Associate II, reporting to the center’s Associate Project Director.
The NCHBHS is one of four Head Start national centers in the training and technical assistance (TTA) system of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of Head Start (OHS). The Center provides research-informed TTA that reflects current evidence and promotes best practices to strengthen professional development outcomes for staff and improve the health, behavioral health, and safety of children and families enrolled in Head Start and/or Early Head Start (HS/EHS) programs.
Job Description
The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.
The Training & Technical Assistance Associate is responsible for moving training sessions from conceptualization, through development and delivery, and on to post-production.
This role is dynamic and fast-paced involving:
• applying extensive knowledge about Head Start, particularly related to health services, to inform the products and trainings the Center develops
• expert research, needs assessment
• writing; editing instructional materials
• documenting, tracking, and cataloguing training sessions
• leading post-production and dissemination of information
• strategizing and consulting with specialists
• developing high-visibility presentations
• coordinating proposal development and project implementation
• developing innovative techniques
• suggesting ideas for improved efficiency or future focus
• identifying & recruiting technical consultants; developing their scope of work
The TTA Associate
• Builds knowledge and capacity of organizations and staff
• Facilitates project teamwork and feedback exchanges
• Expands contacts and strengthens client relations
• Coordinates contract and quality adherence
• Coordinates administrative and logistical tasks
• Troubleshoots complex problems, proposing initiatives and recommending or negotiating solutions
• Provides training, supervision, and guidance or administrative direction to junior staff
• May supervise support staff
• May travel frequently
• Provides internal TTA to build the capacity of the OHS TTA network, grantee-targeted TTA to improve health outcomes for Head Start children and families, and universally accessible TTA for early childhood audiences to promote awareness and increased knowledge
• May advise on complex training or curriculum design projects; may lead design projects or supervise multiple events
Qualifications
This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups and with diverse populations; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:
• Head Start experience/knowledge strongly preferred (experience in a health management position preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree required; With Bachelor’s degree, 7–10 years related experience in the disciplinary area, social science or public health research, education, training, curriculum design, consulting, organizational development, or administrative management, including solid experience with computer applications, instructional design, and Internet research
• Master’s degree, educational certification, or PhD in a related field preferred; With Master’s degree, 5–8 years related experience (as above)
• Ability to work with diverse populations and with populations who are low-income
