Job Description

Full-time, permanent position based at HPC initially with the objective to relocate to France

Do you have experience with radioactive waste? Do you speak French and English? Do you want to lead complex infrastructure that will shape the UK’s energy future for generations?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as an Radiological Protection Engineer here at Hinkley Point C!

The opportunity

Put your skills and dedication to good use and help us build the next generation of EPR/EPR2 nuclear power plants in Europe, starting with Hinkley Point C in Somerset, England, followed by a progression of your career at one of our EPR2 projects in France, such as Penly, Bugey, or Gravelines. This is your chance to be part of a significant program shaping the future of the French energy market and nuclear sector.

You will initially join EDF Energy UK to spend a few years at the HPC site in the south-west of England. Following this, you will move to EDF SA in France and join the team responsible for delivering the planned EPR2 projects across the country.

Both experiences will give you an opportunity to oversee activities within your area of expertise and make sure project objectives are met to the highest standards.

As a Radiological Protection Engineer, you’ll support the development of world‑class radiological protection capability across the Hinkley Point C project, from design and construction through commissioning and preparations for operation. You’ll provide expert advice, set standards, and help ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met, while promoting best practice and a strong safety culture that supports our journey towards An Electric Britain.

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, this role is based across #Bristol and #Bridgwater, with regular engagement at the Hinkley Point C site. You’ll work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, from engineering and safety teams to regulators and industry bodies, in a dynamic project environment where flexibility, collaboration and sound judgement are essential.

Pay, benefits, and culture

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer flexible benefits that support our employees’ physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. Examples include: a market-leading company pension scheme, a bonus plan, health cover, electric vehicle leasing, mental health support and employee discounts.

At EDF, everyone is welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We would like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We are a disability confident employer and will do all we can to support you through your recruitment journey with us. If you would like to talk about adjustments, or support you may need, please note this within your application.

We will value the difference you bring and give you opportunities to thrive and succeed.

What you will be doing…

You’ll also be supported to grow. Whether it’s developing subject‑matter expertise, contributing to industry working groups, or undertaking additional training to strengthen your radiological protection credentials, EDF will help you build a career that develops alongside one of the UK’s most significant energy projects.

  • Providing advice and guidance on radiological protection across design, construction, commissioning and pre‑operations
  • Supporting the development of radiological protection standards, procedures, staffing and training
  • Contributing to the specification and procurement of radiological protection facilities and equipment
  • Engaging with regulators, industry groups and external stakeholders on radiological protection matters
  • Promoting best practice and a strong safety culture across the project

Who You Are...

We’re looking for a Radiological Protection Engineer who brings technical credibility, a proactive mindset and a strong commitment to safety. Are you experienced in…

  • Applying the principles of radiological protection within a complex or high‑hazard environment
  • Developing or implementing arrangements that meet the requirements of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017
  • Working with multidisciplinary teams to influence safe, compliant outcomes
  • Providing clear, practical radiological protection advice to a range of stakeholders
  • Understanding the radiological protection considerations relevant to nuclear facilities

This role offers a rare opportunity to contribute to one of the most ambitious energy projects in Europe. Join us and make an impact on the future of energy.

As this role will ultimately be based in France, you must be ready to relocate and achieve professional-level proficiency in French by that time.

Closing Date: Thursday 21st May
