Job Description
Are you an experienced credit professional who enjoys combining commercial judgement, risk management and relationship building?
Dutton Automotive is looking for a Senior Credit Risk & Collections Specialist to join our team at our Richmond Head Office. Reporting to the Manager of Commercial Risk Management, this is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of customer credit risk, collections and trade credit insurance across a dynamic and growing automotive business.
This is more than a traditional credit control role. You will work closely with Wholesale Sales, customers, senior stakeholders and our overseas parent company, providing trusted commercial advice and helping the business achieve sustainable growth while maintaining strong financial discipline.
You will have the opportunity to make a genuine impact—balancing commercial opportunities with responsible risk management, influencing stakeholders and continuously improving the way we manage credit and cash flow across the business.
In this role, you will:
- Manage customer accounts and proactively oversee the collection of outstanding invoices while maintaining strong and professional customer relationships.
- Monitor and analyse aged debt reports, identifying emerging risks and taking proactive action to minimise exposure.
- Assess customer creditworthiness through credit checks, payment history analysis and ongoing account reviews.
- Review and manage customer credit limits, ensuring decisions balance commercial opportunities with acceptable levels of risk.
- Liaise with trade credit insurers on policy compliance, credit limit applications, claims and reporting requirements.
- Partner closely with Wholesale Sales and other internal stakeholders to identify emerging credit risks and support positive commercial outcomes.
- Engage directly with customers regarding credit matters, payment arrangements, account performance and accounts placed on stop credit or outside agreed trading terms.
- Negotiate payment arrangements and commercially balanced solutions that protect the Company's interests while preserving valuable customer relationships.
- Confidently communicate and, where required, enforce credit policies and decisions.
- Prepare and provide accurate statements, invoices, payment reminders and account information to customers.
- Maintain accurate records of customer communications, account activity and payments within financial systems.
- Provide timely reporting, insights and recommendations to management on significant credit, risk and collection matters.
- Coordinate reporting governance and internal approval processes in collaboration with our overseas parent company.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen credit control processes, improve cash flow and enhance operational efficiency.
- Build trusted relationships with customers, internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Travel interstate occasionally, as required, to support business operations and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications
We are looking for a commercially minded credit professional who is confident managing risk while building strong relationships.
You will ideally bring:
- 3–5 years' experience in commercial credit, credit risk, accounts receivable, collections, banking or a related commercial environment.
- Strong understanding of credit management principles, collections processes and relevant legal requirements.
- Experience assessing creditworthiness, managing credit limits and reviewing customer payment behaviour.
- Strong analytical skills and sound commercial judgement, with the ability to interpret financial information and make informed recommendations.
- Confidence managing sensitive financial conversations, negotiating payment arrangements and influencing stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, senior management and internal stakeholders.
- A strong ability to build and maintain professional relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
- The confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders while maintaining a collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple accounts, competing priorities and deadlines.
- A proactive approach, with demonstrated ownership, initiative and accountability.
- The ability to work autonomously while also collaborating effectively across the broader business.
- Experience working with trade credit insurers is highly desirable.
- Experience preparing management reports, internal approval papers and supporting governance processes will be advantageous.
