Architect III- Cloud Native Applications

  • Full-time
  • Job Category Org: Domino’s Technology
  • Location Name - Location Code: Domino's Pizza LLC-WHQ

Company Description

Domino’s Pizza, which began in 1960 as a single store location in Ypsilanti, MI, has had a lot to celebrate lately: we’re a reshaped, reenergized brand of honesty, transparency and accountability – not to mention, great food! In the rise to becoming a true technology leader, the brand is now consistently one of the top five companies in online transactions and 85% of our sales in the U.S. are taken through digital channels. The brand continues to ‘deliver the dream’ to local business owners, 90% of which started as delivery drivers and pizza makers in our stores. That’s just the tip of the iceberg…or as we might say, one “slice” of the pie! If this sounds like a brand you’d like to be a part of, consider joining our team!

Job Description

Responsible for designing and implementing moderately complex cloud-native application architectures that support business objectives and platform standards. Applies strong knowledge of cloud-native application architecture principles, software engineering practices, and organizational guidelines to build scalable, secure, and operable solutions. Works independently on most assignments while collaborating closely with senior architects and providing technical guidance to engineers and less experienced architects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement cloud-native application-level architectures, translating business and technical requirements into practical, buildable solutions.
  • Apply established cloud-native architectural standards, patterns, and best practices when designing applications and services.
  • Collaborate with solution architects, platform teams, and engineering teams to ensure applications integrate effectively and meet security, resiliency, and operational expectations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and junior architects through design reviews, code reviews, and architecture discussions.
  • Analyze and resolve moderately complex architectural and design issues within cloud-native applications and services.
  • Contribute feedback and implementation insights to the evolution of cloud-native standards and reusable patterns.
  • Document application architecture designs, decisions, and trade-offs to support knowledge sharing and maintainability.
  • Ensure applications are designed for high availability, fault tolerance, and optimal performance under load.

Job Tasks

  • Design application and service-level architecture diagrams, interface definitions, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews to assess solution quality, risk, and alignment with standards.
  • Support development teams during implementation to ensure architectural intent is preserved.
  • Evaluate emerging cloud-native tools, services, and frameworks for potential application within the team or domain.
  • Assist with proof-of-concepts and prototypes for new cloud-native technologies and patterns.
  • Apply ‘Secure by Design’ principles, including Zero Trust concepts, compliance requirements, and data protection practices, within application designs.

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience addressing moderately complex cloud-native application challenges.
  • Solid knowledge of cloud-native application architecture patterns and methodologies (e.g., Microservices, RESTful APIs, Event-Driven Architecture).
  • Proficiency in modern software engineering practices across one or more ecosystems such as Java or .NET.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of modern data tier choices, including relational databases, NoSQL stores, and caching mechanisms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while operating independently within defined architectural guidelines.
  • Familiarity with observability, logging, and monitoring tools used in cloud-native environments.

Software Application

  • Architecture and modeling tools such as Sparx EA or ArchiMate-aligned tooling.
  • Diagramming and documentation tools including Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, or PlantUML.
  • Agile delivery and collaboration tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Version control and CI/CD platforms including Git and GitHub.
  • Cloud-native platforms and services, including container-based and managed cloud services, such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Azure platform services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience in software engineering and application architecture.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in software engineering, application architecture, or related technical roles. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing moderately complex cloud-native applications. Experience providing technical guidance to engineers or junior technical staff.
