Job Description

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is responsible for the supervision of all medical and mental health issues pertaining to patient complaints while in residence. The PMHNP shall provide education and oversight of patient medical and mental health treatment, as well as the documentation required for the case management of patients. The PMHNP is responsible for the direction and coordination of psychiatric care of all patients. 

Responsibilities

  • Attends all scheduled staff meetings and perform specific tasks as directed by the Treatment Director,  Coordinator of Patient Care, Clinical Administrator and Administrator.
  • Provides education, in concert with Administrator to agency personnel as it pertains to agency medical/medication procedures ensuring staff knowledge of patient medications and documentation, psychiatric diagnosis, biohazards, and blood borne pathogens.
  • Monitor and document patient blood pressure/pulse readings.
  • Responsible in concert with the Nurse & or MA for monitoring of electronic medical records to include daily review of medication(s) data completion for all patients admitted within the confines of continuous care.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and resolution of any adverse medication reactions and to educate/train/and advise staff as to the course to be taken for patient care.
  • Reads and interprets psychiatric orders and evaluations of patients and inform clinical and supportive staff of any identified needs of patients.
  • Completes daily patient rounds of newly admitted patients to triage any mental health issues or medical issues within the scope of practice of the PMHNP. 
  • Supports medical staff and their duties within the confines of the policies and procedures of the program.
  • Performs all additional tasks as directed by the Treatment Director, Clinical Administrator, Administrator, within the confines of this position description.

Qualifications

  • Must provide evidence of nursing credentials, continue education and registration including ANCC board certification, active DEA license
  • Must have 3 years of NP experience
  • Must be able to work independently and must be free from alcohol and drugs for a period of two (2) years (or as directed through appropriate waiver).
