WHAT'S THE JOB?

Reporting to the Manager, Solutions Innovation, the Engineer-in-Training plays a central role in the implementation of best practice solutions for new and existing business across the country. This role is designed to build the technical and analytical foundation you need to progress toward your P.Eng. (Professional Engineer) designation.

You’ll begin by supporting core operational and business functions across the organization, gaining exposure to how Dexterra delivers services, manages performance, and drives growth. As you develop, you’ll take on more engineering‑related work.

This is a hybrid role that blends operations, engineering, and business performance - ideal for someone who wants to become a well‑rounded, commercially aware engineer. After approximately one year, this role is intended to transition into a full‑time site management position, where you’ll lead operations directly and apply the technical, analytical, and leadership skills you’ve built.

  • Support site teams in troubleshooting operational challenges
  • Participate in audits, quality checks, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to optimize facility performance, efficiency, and service delivery
  • Contribute to initiatives that enhance profitability, growth, and customer satisfaction

This operational foundation is essential. It prepares you for both engineering responsibilities and for your future transition into site management.

  • Supporting the development of energy‑saving strategies and operational improvements
  • Contributing to measurement, verification, and reporting activities
  • Participating in the implementation of energy‑related projects

Grow Into Engineering Responsibilities

Engineering tasks will be integrated into your workload as they arise, aligned with your P.Eng development plan. These may include:

  • Conducting risk assessments and technical evaluations
  • Supporting engineering documentation, calculations, and compliance activities
  • Participating in the design or optimization of facility operations
  • Assisting in project management for projects over $1M

Gain Broad Cross‑Functional Exposure

You’ll collaborate with teams across:
