There really is only one question: What impact do YOU want to make?

Please note: You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand from the time of application to be considered.

We’re looking for an AI Engineer in our Auckland office to create artificial intelligence solutions for Deloitte’s staff and clients!

Passionate about engineering and deploying generative and agentic AI solutions across a variety of platforms and technical environments? Dive into a world where you can build, deploy, and support cutting-edge generative AI tools with the potential to transform the industry.

You’ll tackle a wide range of technical challenges across diverse projects and environments, continuously developing your capabilities in generative and agentic AI, cloud engineering, and applied AI systems - ensuring ongoing learning and growth.

About the role and team

This is an exciting hands-on role that enables full stack, end-to-end delivery of AI projects using leading digital platforms and foundation models. You will work across a diverse range of responsibilities, including architecting and deploying generative and multiagent workflows with tool use and function calling, tightly integrated with enterprise data platforms and systems.

The role provides opportunities to work in challenging technical environments across multiple industries and business functions. You will also help develop the tools and accelerators our consulting teams use to embed generative AI in their everyday work. Our GenAI Lead, Directors, and Partners are committed to supporting your career and skills development, providing strategic direction to align your personal goals with the opportunities available.

Job Description

A week in the life of an AI Engineer might look like:

  • Engineering end-to-end generative and agentic AI solutions, delivering sprint outcomes from concept through to production in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional Deloitte teams to capture technical requirements and architect, build, and deploy generative and agentic AI solutions in complex enterprise environments.
  • Standing up robust LLMOps capabilities, including automated evaluations, observability and tracing, offline and online testing, prompt versioning, safety redteaming, and cost/latency optimisation.
  • Producing models and pipelines using containerisation, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and cloud native services, while embedding security, privacy, and responsible AI controls throughout the SDLC.
  • Implementing retrieval and grounding strategies (chunking, hybrid search, metadata filtering) and feedback loops to improve reliability, quality, and factuality of generative AI systems.
  • Partnering with engagement leads to scope, estimate, and deliver work packages, and contributing to accelerators, reference architectures, and reusable GenAI components.
  • Maintaining continuous learning across the latest generative AI tools, frameworks, and delivery practices.
  • Supporting Deloitte colleagues by providing technical guidance and mentorship, particularly to junior team members.

Qualifications

Enough about us - let’s talk about you. You are someone with:

  • Experience in professional services or technology vendors as a Generative AI Engineer, Agentic AI Engineer, Technical Analyst, Consultant, or Lead in a customer facing role.
  • Strong cloud native engineering capabilities, with solid foundations in CI/CD, DevOps / LLMOps, and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong business analysis and functional design skills, with the ability to translate business challenges into scalable AI solutions.
  • A proven track record architecting and delivering end-to-end generative and agentic AI systems, leveraging cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI (certifications beneficial).
  • Hands-on experience with vector databases, embedding models, retrieval frameworks, and evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of LLM safety, governance, and risk management practices, including prompt-injection defences, PII handling, content moderation, and auditability.
  • Experience with observability and evaluation tools, performance profiling, and cost management for generative AI workloads.
  • Strong task prioritisation skills and experience implementing DevOps best practices using Git and modern version control approaches; monorepo experience is advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead and mentor teams in a positive, inclusive manner.
  • A genuine passion for generative AI and the drive to proactively pursue continuous learning as the field rapidly evolves.
