2026/2027 Intern | Strategy | Auckland

  • Intern
  • Office address: Deloitte Auckland, Level 20, 1 Queen Street, Auckland
  • Department: Consulting | Strategy

Company Description

By starting your career at Deloitte, you are joining a community of extraordinary professionals who put ‘making an impact’ at the heart of what they do. With our global reach, unwavering support, inclusive atmosphere, and cutting-edge technology, you'll have the opportunity to evolve into your fullest potential.

An intern role at Deloitte is the perfect way to spend your summer and get a taste of what working for Deloitte would look like. You start with a cohort of people just like you, who have finished their penultimate year of study, and are wanting to spend their break getting hands-on experience in the field they are interested in pursuing after graduation. People at Deloitte are the best at what they do and learning from high-performers is a fantastic way to kickstart your growth and career.

Deloitte is committed to staying at the forefront of innovation, including the integration and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in our solutions. We value adaptability and a growth mindset, recognising that AI is transforming the way organisations operate. By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to develop skills that prepare you for the future of work and contribute to shaping how technology drives meaningful impact.

Interns have a two-day induction in their office to understand the corporate environment, what the expectations are, and the role of interns at Deloitte. The internship runs from mid-November (following university exams), has a three week break over Christmas and New Years, and finishes early February before you head back to your final year of university. You will be part of a cohort of 150+ others, all learning collaboratively and building a foundation for your career.

Once you sign your contract with Deloitte, you will start in November that year. Between the application process and your start-date, we have a number of touchpoints including a buddy reaching out to you, so you feel part of the Deloitte whānau before your first day.

If you are interested in pursuing a graduate role at Deloitte after your internship, your buddy and coach can help provide feedback and ensure you make the most of the opportunity. A number of our interns receive a graduate contract at the end of their internship meaning they have secured a job for after university and do not need to apply again! Internships are only available to people with one more year of study. If you are in your final year of study – we hire a number of graduates who didn’t complete internships. For more information about our available roles, see our website.

Job Description

Shape decisions that shape New Zealand.

Our Strategy team partners with leaders across the public and private sector to solve their most significant challenges from economic transformation and sustainability, to commercial strategy, investment decisions and future-facing policy. We work with organisations to define where they need to go next, and build the roadmap to get them there.

As an intern, you’ll be part of a team that tackles high-impact, high-complexity problems from day one. You’ll work across Strategy, Commercial Advisory, Sustainability and Economics, giving you a unique opportunity to explore different disciplines while building a powerful, future-proof analytical skillset.

What you’ll do:

You’ll dive straight into real projects that influence how NZ’s major organisations make decisions. In a typical week, you might:

  • Break down complex strategic questions and develop insights that guide executive decisions
  • Analyse qualitative and quantitative data to uncover trends, commercial value, economic impacts or future risks
  • Help build investment cases, commercial strategies, sustainability pathways, or system-level transformation programmes
  • Contribute to client discussions by preparing sharp, persuasive material for senior leaders
  • Work in small, agile teams where you’ll have real ownership and visibility from the outset
  • Participate in interviews and workshops with stakeholders to understand root causes and co-design solutions
  • Collaborate across Deloitte to bring leading thinking, innovation and global perspectives to your clients

Because our teams are intentionally small, you’ll be front-and-centre, not observing from the sidelines. You’ll be trusted early and supported to grow quickly both as an analyst and as a strategic thinker.

Qualifications

Who you are:

You’re someone who is energised by tackling big, meaningful challenges. You:

  • Think critically and enjoy dissecting complex problems
  • Communicate clearly, logically and with influence
  • Enjoy working with data and can translate analysis into insight
  • Have demonstrated leadership or initiative
  • Have an excellent academic record
  • Are ambitious, driven and want to make a real impact for your clients, your team and your career

Why Strategy at Deloitte?

You’ll join a team that values curiosity, rigour and creativity. You’ll be surrounded by people who are passionate about solving problems that matter for New Zealand - from investment decisions that shape our infrastructure, to strategies that enable a more sustainable and resilient future.

This isn’t a back-office graduate role. It’s an opportunity to be part of consequential work from day one.
