You’ll join our Information Services team in Wellington as a Business Research Junior Analyst.

Join a dynamic team at Deloitte New Zealand in a hybrid role that combines desktop research and competitor analysis, leveraging research and AI skills to deliver actionable insights and support our priority clients. 

There is huge scope for growth in this role due to the fast-paced, dynamic nature of our markets and operating environments. 

Job Description

The impact you'll make:

As a member of the Business Research team you will support strategic decision-making and business growth.

Your typical day will include:  

Desktop research 

  • Provide research support for bids, business development, and priority clients, as well as other ad hoc research tasks to support internal clients.  
  • Use a variety of business information resources to research, compile and deliver client, business and industry research, including identifying trends and opportunities across various client and industry segments. 

Competitive intelligence 

  • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Research and Competitive Intelligence, on competitive intelligence projects involving design, collection, analysis and presentation of data and insights 
  • Perform market scanning (i.e. sensing market developments and shifts, assessing competitive signals and strategic indicators to assess competitors’ moves and investments) and proactively develop competitive intelligence products and services 

Training and knowledge sharing 

  • Deliver training sessions and contribute to AI capability-building initiatives across the business, helping teams enhance their AI, research and insight skills.

Note that this is not a business analyst role and unless you can demonstrate experience or interest in desktop research your application will not be progressed.

Qualifications

Your expertise:  

Bring your experience in business research and see what impact you can make.   

You’ll also have:  

  • 1–4 years of experience in business research, market analysis, or competitive intelligence within professional services, corporate, or public sector environments. We will also consider applicants with a corporate library research background. 
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a natural curiosity and lateral thinking ability, and a keen interest in the business world. 
  • Proven ability to synthesise complex information into clear, actionable insights 
  • Experience using AI-powered research platforms (e.g., Copilot, Perplexity) and a solid understanding of AI literacy. 
  • Strong analytical, report writing and presentation skills; data visualisation skills would be a distinct advantage.  
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including presentation and training delivery 
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders and act as a strategic advisor. 
  • A driven and self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.  
  • Committed to continuous learning and adapting to new digital tools and methodologies.
