You’ll join our Independence & Conflicts team in Auckland as a Consultant/ Graduate.

Job Description

The impact You'll make: 

As a Consultant or Graduate in our Independence & Conflicts team you will develop an understanding of the firm’s local and global policies and procedures as they relate to independence. Undertake initial research and analysis across multiple independence and conflicts related systems. Your typical day will include: 

Independence Policy

Develop a clear understanding of the Global and NZ firm’s independence rules and policies. Review, monitor, and ensure timely completion of entity updates in DESC, including its client corporate entity trees. Support internal clients by providing operational info related to DESC and SRM processes. Review and monitor service requests.

Conflict Management

  • Research and document client conflict searches received locally and from overseas member firms. Identify and discuss conflict/independence-related issues with independence managers to agree on actions. Liaise with overseas member firms on conflict searches, follow up as necessary. Update conflicts systems (internal and global) with conflict requests, monitor outstanding clearance requests, and proactively follow up. Ensure filing records align with legal/regulatory requirements. Suggest process improvements for conflict checking.

New Starters/Leavers/Promotions

  • Co-ordinate and manage the firm's starter/leaver processes regarding independence. Ensure new starters and promotions complete independence declaration and e-learning programmes within specified timeframes. Provide guidance as needed, run e-learning reports to ensure completions, proactively follow up irregularities, and report exceptions to manager.

Global Independence Monitoring System (GIMS)

  • Regularly monitor NZX for company additions/deletions in GIMS. Ensure new starters (managers and above) are loaded onto GIMS and have necessary documentation. Run weekly GIMS reports and liaise with manager to resolve issues. Complete global forms for Restricted Entity changes. Advise and assist users regarding GIMS, participate in training.

Inspection & Testing

  • Participate in Partner and Manager Personal Independence testing per global timetable. Assist with independence and GIMS queries daily, sample selection for testing, manage waivers/extensions for Partners invested in restricted entities, and assist with quarterly/annual independence confirmation. Ensure testing docs are up to date with new questions from Global.

Quality Control & Ad hoc Projects

  • Understand quality control processes/procedures as they relate to independence/conflicts. Participate in ad hoc projects as required.

Qualifications

Your expertise:

  • Strong attention to detail in researching online company databases (Factiva, Hoovers, third-party sites) 
  • Strong interpersonal skills for confident communication with Partners, Principals, Managing Directors 
  • Organisational skills for managing multiple responsibilities and ad hoc requests 
  • Ability to present business process improvement ideas and recommendations 
  • Ability to identify team member strengths/areas for improvement and provide detailed feedback plans 
  • Project management skills for handling multiple projects/tasks within tight deadlines
