As a Senior Project Controller – Strategic Programmes you will take ownership of the financial governance and strategic oversight of our most complex and high-value programmes and projects of our most significant programmes and projects. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining disciplines that track and forecast project spend, support budget planning, pricing, including aligning financial data with delivery progress. 

Job Description

This role requires a strong foundation in financial analysis, programme financial planning and tracking, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic financial outcomes, programme financial planning and tracking. The role also involves cross-functional collaboration and is ideal for someone who enjoys working with both data and people to drive optimal performance. You will work alongside programme / project managers, directors, and partners, and will be expected to provide strategic financial leadership and challenge assumptions to ensure commercial success, directors and partners to support key matters including:

  • Project engagement setup processes.
  • Contract (MSA & SOW) compliance management involving understanding and application of controls to proactively manage scope, pricing schedules, commercial frameworks, and reporting obligations.
  • Collaborate with Programme / Project Managers to develop project budgets in line with project scope and work break-down structure across the full delivery life cycle.
  • Financial reporting and analysis (e.g. weekly actuals vs forecast budget tracking, profitability, variances, and other relevant analysis).
  • Prepare project forecasts, conduct detailed analysis including reconciliations, identify trends and risks, propose mitigations, and provide commentary to Engagement Leads.
  • Reporting financial performance for large and complex projects and participate in the review of overall project status and forecasts with the Programme / Project Manager or Engagement Leads.
  • Ensure accurate project financial analysis and reporting, with seamless integration between project and financial systems.
  • Vendor management, awareness & ability to manage supplier (contractors, inter-firms etc) relationships and manage multiple commercial contracts.
  • Monthly outgoing client invoices and processing incoming contractor / inter-firm invoices.
  • Timesheets & expenses management and reconciliation.
  • Manage Internal project risk, issue, and quality management from a financial perspective.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, ensuring value delivery and building enduring relationships.
  • Mentor and guide junior project controllers, contributing to capability uplift across the team.
  • Lead financial governance across multi-million dollar engagements, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.
  • General programme / project engagement documentation and administration.

Qualifications

Enough about us, let’s talk about you. You are someone with: 

  • Financial qualification such as CA or CPA is preferred although not essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead financial strategy across large-scale programmes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting or other work-related degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in finance, project management, or project accounting, ideally within complex, matrixed environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite (e.g. Excel)
  • Prior experience in SAP and Fiori preferrable but not mandatory.
  • Self-motivated, client-focused, and results-driven with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience in project control, project management, or PMO support roles.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically.
