Our Tax team are looking for a Research & Development Tax Manager to join their Christchurch ranks.

The R&D Tax Incentive is a recently introduced government measure to encourage businesses undertaking R&D, and ultimately to increase Aotearoa’s business investment in R&D. As an R&D Tax Manager, you will be responsible for assisting our clients with their R&D Tax Incentive claims.

You will work with clients to deliver R&D incentive services, with the ability to seamlessly manage several engagements concurrently. You will enjoy and thrive on leading others, supporting them to make an impact that matters, and setting the direction to deliver exceptional client service. You will demonstrate sales development and practice development, with the opportunity to make a real contribution to the growth of our successful national team.

Job Description

The impact you’ll make: 

As a Manager/Associate Director you will support our clients on how their research and development work can access government support. Your typical day will include:

  • Interviewing technical client staff to identify their research and development projects
  • Being a trusted advisor to clients, and potential clients, in the R&D space
  • Assisting in the writing of reports that summarise client research and development efforts and creating R&D costing models, while meeting statutory deadlines
  • Building project teams to present Deloitte’s service offerings to clients, onboarding their work as appropriate, and delivering key pieces of work
  • Reviewing the work of junior team members and coaching them to build their skills and further contribute to client deliverables
  • Being a role model for our people and clients and recognising others for the impact they make by their valued contributions
  • Managing multiple jobs concurrently, facilitating teams to deliver quality services
  • Creating opportunities to build relationships across a broad range of stakeholders
  • Being an active participant in the local market, identifying opportunities to add value and providing insightful recommendations to clients

Qualifications

Your expertise: 

Bring your knowledge os R&D environments and see what impact you can make. You’ll also have:

  • A professional qualification in engineering, technology, science, law or accounting
  • 5+ years work experience in a consulting firm or industry
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, particularly with client technical staff
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a keen interest in innovation
  • An understanding of how costs are allocated to R&D activities
  • A results driven attitude and client oriented
  • A drive to develop people and grow your career
