Job Description
This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a commercial and analytically minded professional to assess the impact of organisational marketing and media spend and evaluate effectiveness across all media channels. The role will influence how an organization invests in customer growth, measures marketing effectiveness, leverages data-driven insights, and delivers high impact return on media spend. You will operate at the intersection of growth, analytics, risk, and strategy, providing executive leadership with the confidence to make high-value marketing and media investment decisions.
Marketing Spend Assurance
- Review marketing budgets and campaign expenditure.
- Validate agency billing, media spend, and procurement processes.
- Identify overspending, inefficiencies, or leakage.
Marketing Data & Reporting Assurance
- Verify the accuracy of marketing KPIs and dashboards.
- Assess the reliability of customer, campaign, and performance data.
- Ensure reporting used for business decisions is trustworthy.
Marketing Risk & Compliance
- Evaluate compliance with advertising regulations.
- Review customer data privacy controls (POPIA, GDPR, etc.).
- Assess governance around digital marketing platforms and campaigns.
Media & Advertising Assurance
- Confirm that media placements occurred as contracted.
- Validate audience reach, impressions, and campaign performance metrics.
- Test controls over agency and vendor management.
Internal Control Reviews
- Assess controls over marketing processes.
- Identify fraud, waste, or operational risks.
- Recommend improvements to governance and oversight.
Advisory & Improvement
- Help marketing teams improve effectiveness and measurement.
- Implement better controls and performance tracking.
- Support digital transformation and marketing technology governance.
Qualifications
Relevant Degree: BCom Accounting, BCom Risk Management, BCom Finance
10+ years Marketing Assurance with experience in:
- Marketing analytics and reporting
- Campaign performance measurement
- Media spend analysis
- Data quality and data governance
- Internal controls and risk management
- Dashboard development (Power BI/Tableau)
- Customer and digital analytics
- Audit testing and assurance methodologies
- Stakeholder management
- Regulatory compliance (POPIA, advertising standards)
