Job Description
The Legal Manager supports the Tax & Legal business area leadership in the implementation of the strategic plan through the effective management of team/s. Build high-performing teams to deliver in client engagements. Translate broader strategy into a compelling team vision and goals. Applies deep knowledge of disruptive trends and competitor activity to drive continuous improvement.
The day-to-day responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):
- Drafting of tax Legal Documents
- Managing and advising clients on tax dispute matters
- Liaising with SARS on matters
- Onboarding and billings of clients
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- LLB Degree or Bcom Accounting/ Accounting science
- Post graduate tax qualification
- Admitted Attorney (Preferable)
Minimum Experience
- 5 years post articles legal experience with a law firm/professional services firm or similar
- 3 years SARS advisory experience
- 3 years’ experience in a client-facing and/or advisory role (preferable)
Core Professional Technical Capabilities
- Core understanding and practical experience of the Tax Administration Act
- Good working knowledge of the Tax Dispute Rules including the Tax Board, ADR, Tax Court Rules and Settlement provisions
- Understanding of the Income Tax Act and Value Added Tax Acts
- Understanding of the Custom Excise Act
- Previous experience with Voluntary Disclosure Program will be advantageous
- Delivery excellence - Develops a network of internal and external contacts within the organization to facilitate the sharing/retrieving of information and providing assistance to clients
- Analytical Thinking and Problem-Solving - Effectively organizes and presents complex issues, results, and recommendations to management and clients
- Technology Tools and Solutions – Spots emerging industry-specific technology trends and recommends how clients can prepare for these changes
Technical Capabilities
- Understanding of Administrative Law
- General understanding of litigation in the High Courts
- Knowledge of the Companies Act 2008
- Excellent drafting and research skills
