Job Description
Legal Engineer
About De Brauw
De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek is a leading Dutch law firm with a strong international practice. We guide clients where it matters most, whether in Amsterdam or on the other side of the world. Our lawyers, civil-law notaries and tax advisers provide the highest level of counsel on complex, often cross-border legal matters. Innovation, substance and development are central to everything we do, in our services and in our people. We therefore continue to invest in the development of our people, our organisation and our profession. In this role, you will contribute directly to that ambition by helping to shape the future of legal service delivery through technology and AI.
As a department, Legal Know-how, Tech & AI works closely with lawyers and clients and focuses on supporting and improving legal processes by combining the expertise of our legal tech engineers, data scientists, legal project managers and legal advisers.
Role Overview
As a Legal Engineer, you play a crucial role in bridging the gap between law and technology within the Legal Know-how, Tech & AI team. This is a substantively diverse role: you combine technical expertise with sharp legal insight, working closely with lawyers, clients and colleagues from various disciplines to improve and innovate our service delivery.
You actively monitor developments in legal tech and AI, translate these into concrete solutions and thereby contribute to the innovation of our legal processes. You are the connecting link that ensures technology and law reinforce one another.
This role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact on the way we design, support and develop our legal processes, close to the work and the people.
Your Responsibilities
As a Legal Engineer, you combine substantive advisory work with the development and management of tools and processes. Your key responsibilities include:
- Advice & Support: Advise and support lawyers and clients in optimising their processes by deploying the right tools.
- Tool & Process Management: Manage and further develop tools and processes, in collaboration with suppliers and the practice, to ensure we always deliver the best possible solution.
- Collaboration: Work together with lawyers, clients and colleagues from other areas of expertise, such as legal project management, data science and IT, to map legal processes, identify bottlenecks and propose concrete improvements.
- Innovation & Research: Investigate the opportunities presented by new technological developments for our practice, including legal tech, AI, knowledge management and data science.
- Adoption & Training: Stimulate the use of new tools and ways of working within the organisation, including by giving presentations and providing training to users.
Who Are You?
You are curious, entrepreneurial and service-oriented, with strong communication skills and a natural affinity for collaboration in a dynamic environment.
You possess:
- Experience: Demonstrable experience with legal tech, AI and/or process improvement, preferably in a legal or professional services environment; experience with tools such as Power Automate is an advantage.
- Legal Background: A bachelor's or master's degree in law, or relevant work experience in a legal environment.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written proficiency in Dutch and English; you are a capable sparring partner for lawyers.
- Proactive Mindset: A solution-oriented approach in which you always consider the question behind the question and proactively share your ideas and advice.
- Stakeholder Sensitivity: The ability to balance different interests and perspectives effectively.
- Technical Proficiency: An affinity for digital tools and systems, and an interest in process improvement and technology.
- Team Orientation: A collaborative, approachable and team-oriented attitude.
- Affinity with Innovation & AI: A genuine interest in the possibilities of AI and technological innovation within the legal sector, and the ambition to actively contribute to this.
What We Offer
At De Brauw, you work in an environment where innovation and development are central, and where your contribution truly matters. You will have the space to design and roll out impactful solutions for professionals at all levels. We also offer:
- A competitive salary, in line with your experience and the level of the role.
- Room for personal and professional growth.
- The opportunity to work on projects that have impact for our people and our organisation.
- An open culture in which your voice counts and your initiative is valued.
