Job Description

Position Title: Elections Campaigner

Terms: 1-year term, full-time (34 hours/ 4-day work week)

Location: Based at our Toronto or Vancouver office, with remote work during Covid.

Reporting to: Manager, National Policy

Salary: 45-55k

About the Role

In this role, you will work with other campaigners, policy analysts and public-engagement specialists supporting the David Suzuki Foundation’s intervention in the upcoming federal election and the June 2022 Ontario provincial election.

In a strictly non-partisan fashion, you will help raise the profile of DSF’s main campaigns – including biodiversity protection and climate solutions, so Canadians vote with these issues in mind. You will also organize and coordinate DSF’s effort to get Canadians to the polls.

You are adept at working with both DSF colleagues and staff at other organizations, as part of a movement-wide “get out the vote” effort!

Your Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and coordinate the planning and implementation of DSF’s “get out the vote” effort.
  • Contact the DSF community through a variety of means including text messaging, email, social and conventional media. 
  • Participate in strategy sessions with other DSF staff and partner organizations.
  • Provide information to DSF staff (in easy to understand non-technical language) on federal and Ontario election rules. 
  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns at its conclusion.

Qualifications

Skills, Experience and Knowledge Required:

  • University, college or equivalent degree or experience required.
  • 3 years plus work experience in one of the following or a related field: environmental advocacy, non-profit advocacy, community organizing, public mobilization or online/digital campaigns.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian environmental politics and Canada’s electoral system.
  • Strong communications skills and deep familiarity with social and conventional media.
  • Skilled and savvy organizer and coordinator of complex projects.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to work under tight timelines.
  • Proven ability working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Well-versed with rules governing charities.
