Job Description

DNAnexus Academy builds high-demand skills in bioinformatics, data science, and data governance and security, to help our Customers effectively leverage our solutions to achieve their healthcare objectives converting novices to evangelists.

The DNAnexus Academy Instructor possesses domain expertise to further educate our Customers on DNAnexus technologies. The Instructor works within the Academy team and across multiple departments and stays abreast of the DNAnexus product roadmap to keep the training programs relevant and ahead of demand. Academy courses may take place remotely via web-conferencing, synchronously or asynchronously via a learning management system, and in-person.

A DNAnexus Academy Instructor:

  • Actively leads and delivers courses to DNAnexus Customers, who range from the pharmaceutical industry to academic research and medical centers
  • Works collaboratively with members of the DNAnexus Academy
  • Takes an active role in the development of bioinformatics, translational informatics, and/or data science training courses designed to leverage the strengths of the DNAnexus Platform
  • Supports the implementation of  online and in-person  teaching methods that engage learners in a highly interactive environment
  • Helps to develop a coordinated curriculum content for learners at varying levels of knowledge and experience, from beginner to intermediate to advanced
  • Develops training materials suitable to in-person and online training

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual starting salary for this position is between $125,000 – $135,000.  Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, data science, clinical informatics, software engineering, preferably in life science or health care.
  • Experience in bioinformatics to support basic, translational and/or clinical research in a biotech, pharma, academic or healthcare environment.
  • Proficient with programming languages such as R, Python, Java, and tools like Jupyter Notebook.
  • Experience with in-person or online teaching in professional and/or in higher education adult or customer settings.
  • Demonstrated  effective and articulate public speaking skills.
  • Experience with creating in person or online teaching materials. Ability to bring a solution-focused approach to settings typical of high-growth environments.
  • Self-starter, highly proactive individual who will work collaboratively with members of the Academy team.
  • Comfortable working across multiple teams with different expertise and work cultures.
  • Experience in adult pedagogy or training, or customer education is highly desired.
  • A working knowledge of various NGS technologies (e.g.  RNA-Seq, variant analysis, WGS/WES) and analysis tools/pipelines is highly desired.
