Job Description
As a Senior System & Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and certification of our electric propulsion systems for aviation platforms.
You will be responsible for establishing and driving the Systems Engineering and Safety activities across the complete product lifecycle, from early concept and architecture definition through development, verification, validation, and certification.
As one of the first dedicated engineers in this area, you will have the opportunity to build and shape the System & Safety Engineering function within the company.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate system-level requirements definition, ensuring a consistent and complete set of product requirements.
- Act as a key technical integrator including mechanical design, control systems, software, hardware, testing, and manufacturing.
- Define and maintain the system architecture and interfaces of the propulsion system.
- Drive system design decisions considering safety, performance, reliability, maintainability, testability, manufacturability, and certification requirements.
- Plan, perform, and coordinate system safety assessments, including activities such as FHA, PSSA/SSA, FMEA.
- Derive and manage safety requirements and support their allocation to system, hardware, and software levels.
- Support the definition and justification of Development Assurance Levels (DAL/FDAL) and associated development assurance activities.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate system-level technical and safety risks throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ensure effective integration of subsystems and components into the overall propulsion system and verify compliance with defined requirements.
- Define and support system verification and validation strategies, including integration and qualification testing.
- Work closely with certification and airworthiness functions to provide the required system and safety engineering evidence for certification.
- Manage product requirements, interfaces, assumptions, and changes throughout the development lifecycle.
- Establish and continuously improve Systems Engineering and Safety processes, methods, and tools within the organization.
Support the future growth of the System & Safety Engineering function and, as the organization expands, take increasing responsibility for technical leadership, mentoring, and team development.
Qualifications
- University degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in aerospace system development, preferably in Systems Engineering and/or Safety Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with aerospace requirements management, system architecture, verification, validation, and safety assessment.
- Practical experience with safety analysis methods such as FHA, FMEA, PSSA, and SSA.
- Knowledge of electric propulsion or electrical drive systems, including electric motors, inverters/power electronics, high-voltage systems, and associated control systems, is highly desirable.
- Good knowledge of SAE ARP4754A and SAE ARP4761A or equivalent aerospace development and safety processes.
- Familiarity with RTCA DO-178C / EUROCAE ED-12C and RTCA DO-254 / EUROCAE ED-80.
- Understanding of aerospace certification processes and interaction with certification authorities is highly desirable.
- ability to work independently, take technical ownership, coordinate across engineering disciplines, and mentor others.
