We are seeking an outstandingly motivated Prototype & Build Technician to join our engineering team and support the development of novel medical devices and applications.
Job Description
As part of the R&D - NPI group, you will be responsible for Pilot Build, periodic Prototype build, and test/documentation of builds which potentially includes alignment of laser and optical systems (training available), mechanical and electrical assembly, rework of PCBA’s, performance testing, and troubleshooting at the board level. The individual will work closely with our engineers and scientists to support product development from prototyping, through the pilot build, and into manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Align, test, and debug laser heads for R&D (will be taught). Use test equipment such as optical power meters and heads, oscilloscopes, cameras, and spectrometers to characterize optical performance. Recommend improvements to design and methods to improve product reliability and manufacturability
- Support engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototypes through pilot build, electro mechanical-optical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment (applications may include lasers, optical systems, analog, digital and/or video circuits, and logic systems)
- Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions
- Perform operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment; assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
- Perform product verification and validation testing and document results
- Support transfer of products to manufacturing from R&D through pilot build; write assembly and test methods and potentially assist in training manufacturing personnel
Qualifications
- Motivated, self-starter with good communication skills
- Demonstrated technical build documentation skills
- Multiple years hands-on pilot and/or prototype build experience of sufficiently complex electromechanical devices
- Hands-on, ability to work independently and in a team, able to focus and comfortable working in a fast paced environment
- Familiarity with test and measurement equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrometers, optical power meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators and/or specialized test apparatus
- Basic electrical assembly and laser/optical alignment skills are required.
- Experience building, testing, and debugging prototype, beta and/or Pilot products
- Experience working with frequency doubled lasers, lamp or diode-pumped lasers, nonlinear crystals, laser diodes, electro-optical or acousto-optical switches, optical fibers, flashlamps, or imaging systems helpful
Education / Experience:
- Minimum AS degree (or equivalent experience)
- New Grads with electro-mechanical (mechatronics) experience welcome to apply
- Roles available with 3+ years experience
- Previous work experience in the medical device or laser industry is helpful
