Job Description
Your Opportunity
The Data Platform Architect is responsible for the end-to-end architecture, design standards, and strategic evolution of the Databricks platform. The role ensures the platform is secure, cost-efficient and fit for purpose to support:
Analytics and reporting; and
Data engineering; and
AI & Machine learning; and
Regulatory and industry (PCI-DSS) requirements
Cuscal is evolving its strategic data platform on Databricks in AWS and is seeking a Data Platform Architect to establish best practice design and governance aligned with the Databricks Well Architected Framework.
The role will lead the uplift of the current platform, which was originally implemented for limited use cases, by introducing enterprise grade architecture standards, reviewing and formalising ingestion frameworks through the Architecture Working Group (AWG), implementing a fully realised Medallion Architecture, ensuring correct workspace configuration and separation, and embedding strong cost governance.
Operating within the complexities of a payments organisation subject to PCI obligations and ASX listed compliance, the Data Platform Architect will drive extensive consultation across business domains and corporate areas to ensure platform capabilities are scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned with organisational needs.
As the single point of accountability for the end-to-end technical architecture of the Databricks lakehouse, the role will define guardrails, create reusable patterns, and guide delivery teams across solution design, data modelling, pipelines, performance, and AI or ML workloads.
Working closely with the Data Platform Lead on strategy, budgets, and roadmap, and with analytics engineers in delivery teams on implementation, the Data Platform Architect will ensure that future migration of on-premise workloads into Databricks is controlled, predictable, and cost efficient, ultimately enabling a centralised and reliable data platform for business insights and reporting.
